Born and raised In Cordova, Alaska, he had lived in Buncombe County since 1973.

He was a son of the late Arne Siguard and Julia Naumoff Olsen, was retired from the U.S. Army and he attended Sunrise Baptist Church. Mr. Olsen was a wonderful KIMBERLY KENT MARSHALL Kimberly Boles Kent, 33, of 455 Ammons Branch Road, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, from Injuries sustained In an automobile accident.

A member of Marshall First Baptist Church, she was employed as a kindergarten teacher for Madison County Schools. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Cheryl and Tina Boles; JAMES SPRINKLE MARS HILL James W. Sprinkle, 79, of Mars Hill, died Thursday, Jan, 6, 2000, at Mission St. Joseph's Hospital. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Virgil and Mary M.

Sprinkle. He was a retired dairy farmer and was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Sprinkle. He was of the baptist faith. Lewis C. Paine the former Anne Westall, died at her home in Weaverville on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000. She was 73. The Asheville native was the daughter of the late Jack Westall and Mary Wiley Westall.

She attended St. Genevieve's-in-the-Pines and Randolph-Macon Women's College. She married and moved to Staten Island, N.Y., where she was active in community affairs for over 20 years. After the family relocated to Fairfax, she continued her career in writing and public relations as a director with the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Anne Paine Fairfax County Library System. She earned a master's degree in English literature from George Mason University.

She served as president of the Fairfax Garden Club. Since retiring to Weaverville, she was an active member of the Asheville History Club, a volunteer for the Literacy Council and a supporter and play reader for the Southern Appalachian Regional Theater (SART). She is survived by her husband, Lewis C. Paine four sons, Thomas of Weaverville, Lewis III of Wayland, James of Superior, and Robert of Warrenton, one daughter, Linda, of Norwalk, one brother, Jack Westall of Asheville; one sister, Mary Large of Evans, and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, James M.

Westall. The family received friends from p.m. Jan. 7 at Morris Funeral Home, Merrimon Avenue. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m.

JAMES KORSLEY FRANKLIN James William "Bill" Horsley, 83, of Anderson Street, died of complications of pneumonia Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at St.

Joseph's Hospital in Asheville. He was a native of Macon County and the son of the late Dr. Howard Theodore and Mamie Bowen Horsley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lasca Evans Horsley, who passed away in 1997. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S.

Navy, was a retired businessman and was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was active in Sunday School. He was a member of the Lions Club, American Legion Post No. 108 and the Mental Health Association. He loved traveling, reading and his Daschund dog, Erich. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and collected caps from all over the world.

He is survived by four daughters, Dwain Bouldin of Cary, Kirsten and Billie Horsley, both of Charlotte, and Karen Horsley of Franklin; one sister, Bettie Rogers of Middletown, N.J.; one brother, Dr. Howard Horsley Jr. of Denver, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Bryant Funeral Home with Dr.

Donald G. Bouldin, the Revs. Blake Bouldin and Harold Ball officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

6, 2000, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Robert and Mag-gie Green Putnam. He was a millwright at Daniels Construction. He was an avid golfer and formerly managed Lake Junaluska Golf Course. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Louise Briggs Putnam; one daughter, Betty P.

Reece of the home; three sons, Charlie W. Putnam Jr. of Waynesville, Donald E. Putnam Sr. of Springville, Robert W.

Putnam Sr. of Asheville; two sisters, Ruth Jackson, Belle Ballard, both of Waynesville; one brother, Lloyd Putnam of Waynesville; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. The Revs.

ZELVA SMATHERS CANTON Zelva Overman Smathers, 87, of 113 Phillipsville Loop, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000.

She was a a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Hester Wines Overman. Mrs. Smathers was a loving and devoted wife for 68 years. She was a homemaker who devoted herself to caring for her family, church and community. She was a member of Phillipsville Church of God of Prophecy since 1946.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh J. Smathers; two daughters and son-in-law, Marvelene and Jack Chapman of Canton and Martha "Red" Crawford of Clyde; three grandchildren, Vanessa Jamison, Renai Holcombe and Jamee Crawford; three great-grandchildren, Aaron and Jennifer Jamison and Anna Holcombe; and one brother, Walter Overman of Leicester. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Wilda Kauffman, Macie Pendland and Valerie and Ethel Overman; three brothers, Roy, Grady and Arthur Overman; and four grandchildren, Jessica Yvonne Crawford, Al and Malcolm Holcombe. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Revs.

Curtis Stump and John Murphy officiating. Burial will be in CrawfordRay Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:45 a.m. p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

KIT FORBES LINVILLE Kit Carson Forbes, 85, of Linville, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in a local hospital. A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late John and Rosa Burleson Forbes. He was retired from Linville Resorts, an United States Army veteran and attended Evangelical Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Henderson Forbes of the home; four sons, David Forbes of Montezuma, Carroll Forbes of Crossnore, Larry and William Forbes, both of Linville; three daughters, Darlene Watson of Asheville, Susan Coffey of Jonas Ridge, Judy Watson of Denver; four sisters, Thelma Hampton, Agnus Henley, both of Linville, Elsie Harmon of Newland, Jo Turlington of Dunn; one brother, Cody Forbes of Linville; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Linville Evangelical Methodist Church. The Rev. Ken Harper will officiate. Interment will be in Tanglewood Cemetery.

EDWARD PRESSLEY WAYNESVILLE Edward Eugene Pressley, 69, of Bellview Rest Home, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Charles O. and Estella Hall Pressley. Surviving are one brother, Vaughn Pressley of Fletcher; two sisters, Ruby Jervis of Asheville and Velma Ruff of Waynesville. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

6, 2000, at McDowell Hospital. Born in McDowell County to the late John and Ella Bradley Rickman, she was a homemaker and member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Haney, and two daughters, Faye Kelly and Helen Effler.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Haney of Waverly, N.Y., John Haney Jr. of Marion; five daughters, Juanita Grant of Dinwiddie, Pearl Mundy of Black Mountain, Frances Creasman, Sadie Woody, both of Marion, Linda Brooks of Old Fort; 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Marks United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Doug Benton will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Kirksey Funeral Home.

JOHN JAMES SYLVA John Kenneth James, 53, of the Green Creeks Community, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a veteran of the United States Navy and a baptist. He was a former employee of the Ashley Co. and was the son of the late Isaac and Daisy Dietz James.

Surviving are three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah J. and George C. Barnes of Burnsville, Linda James of Sylva, Frances and Lyle Conner of Candler; three nieces; two nephews; two great-nieces and three great-nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home.

The Rev. L.F. "Bill" Sutton will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

DEWEY McKINNEY SPRUCE PINE Dewey McKin-ney, 80, of Spruce Pine, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Grindstaff Memorial chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Branch Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one BURNSVILLE Florence Wilson, 91, formerly of Pensacola, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the home of a daughter, Anna Kate Cook in Connelly Springs. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late John and Cynthia Davis Sturgill and wife of Alex Wilson, who died in 1988. Surviving are two daughters, Anna Kate cook of Connelly Springs, Barbara Watts of Limestone, eight sons, J.E. Wilson, Robert Wilson, Frank Wilson, Ralph Wilson, Arthur Wilson, all of Burnsville, Willard Wilson of Swannanoa, Geter Wilson of Durham, David Wilson of Iowa Park, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Pensacola Freewill Baptist Church, of which she was a member. The Revs. Troy McCurry and Leonard Lindsay will officiate. Burial will be in Big Tom Wilson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. BOB RAY WAYNESVILLE Bob Ray, 65, of 1260 Camp Branch Road, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Edgar and Gladys Nichols Ray.

He was a supervisor with Wellco Shoe Corporation. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dick Ray. Surviving are his wife, Betty Mash-burn Ray; three sons, Roger Ray of Hampton, David and Keith Ray, both of Waynesville; one sister, Jane Young of Waynesville; one brother, Toby Ray of Waynesville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Garrett Funeral Home.

The Revs. Lloyd Fish and Carl Presnell will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews and grandsons. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

At other times, the family will be at 260 Camp Branch Road. Memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad. VIOLA LANCE HORSE SHOE Viola Gaddy Lance, 83, of 193 Pennsylvania Road, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Park Ridge Living Center following a long illness. A native of Buncombe County, she had lived in Henderson County for the last 60 years.

She was a daughter of the late Charles and Addie Knighten Gaddy, and the wife of Alfred M. Lance, who died in September 1999. She was also preceded in death by one son, Ronald Lance, who died in 1965; three brothers, Howard, Herman and Frank Gaddy; and two sisters, Thelma Gallamore and Maude Gallamore. She was a member of Mountain Home Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Carl Barnett of Mills River; one brother, Weldon Gaddy of Asheville; two granddaughters, Carla Fullam, Elana Carland; and three great-grandchildren, Tori, Jarrett and Alisha Carland.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mills River Baptist Church. Elder F.W. Stack will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
