I Economic worries spur some selling NEW YORK (UPI) Investor concerns about persistent inflation and an uncertain economic outlook left stocks lower late Friday afternoon in moderately active trading. The Dow Jones industrial average, which rose 4.43 points Thursday, was off 3.23 points to 840.10 around! 2 p.m. CST. Declines led advances, 823 to 593, among the 1,890 issues crossing the New York Stock Exchange tape. The five-hour NYSE volume amounted to about 29,800,000 shares, down from the 33,320,000 traded during the corresponding period Thursday.

Volume set an all-time annual record of eight billion shares at 12:10 p.m. CST. Prices were higher in active trading of American Stock Exchange issues. Analysts said the market was undergoing yearend switching, with some profit taking occurring following recent gains. Brokers said some traders sold after the government said November con- CHICAGO LIVE SUPPLIED BY ANSPACHER OPEN HIGH Feb 71.80 72.10 Apr 72.80 73.60 June 73.85 74.80 Aug 72.90 73.60 LIVE HOGS Feb 41.75 42.45 Apr 39.75 40.60 June 42.50 43.45 July 43.55 44.20 PORK BELLIES Feb 47.05 47.90 Mar 47.80 48.40 May 49.00 50.00 July 50.60 51.20 FEEDER CATTLE Jon 84.17 84.75 Mar 85.35 85.B5 Apr 85.75 86.05 sumer prices rose 1 percent, or at a 12 percent annual rate.

Analysts said that increase virtually guaranteed the nation will end the year with double-digit inflation. The problem could get worse because OPEC ministers failed to agree on a unified oll pricing system at their meeting in Caracas that ended Thursday. 1 Most of the OPEC members raised prices recently to a range of $24 to $30 a barrel. Government sources said this would boost consumer prices one percentage point next year. But others said prices eventually could fall because the marketplace now will decide prices.

The nation's economic picture was confusing. Preliminary figures showed that the fourth quarter gross national product has risen about 1.5 percent. The Federal Reserve late Thursday reported the nation's basic money supply rose $800 million in the latest statistical week. Citibank left its prime lending rate at 15 percent. Radio Club transmits free yule greetings Like to send a personal Christmas greeting to a friend or relative at no charge almost anywhere in the United States or even the world? Then drop in Friday or Saturday between 4 and 8 p.m. at a booth set up by the Central Kansas Amateur Radio Club near the north end of the Mid State Mall. Club members will be on hand to take and transmit messages to other states or overseas to military posts. It serves as a training exercise for the club. Thursday night, the first night of the service, 40 messages were transmitted.

Should there be sufficient interest, a club member said, the service may also be offered Sunday night at the Mall. Meteorite may be a sign of more to come blue-green meteorite that Ed Maher, 144 Montgomery, saw streak across the sky early Thursday morning just north of Salina was nothing unusual for this time of year, according to Paul Stucky, professor of physics at Kansas Wesleyan. Contacted Friday after Maher reported the sighting, Stucky said meteor showers are visible about 16 times a year and can be predicted with relative certainty. Stucky said the Thursday sighting by Maher and others in the Salina area probably means another meteor shower will be visible early Saturday between midnight and twilight. Stucky said the meteorites normally aren't dangerous because most burn up before reaching the ground.

The showers occur when the earth passes through an area of meteor fragments as it orbits the sun. The most spectacular meteor showers occurred Oct. 9, 1933, and Oct. 9, 1946, he said, when falling stars lighted the sky at a rate of 100 a minute.
