Hence this special act was passed. Upon careful reading of this statute it becomes manifest-that the Public Service Commission has full authority to select a location for a union passenger station "and order the two roads to erect the same, no matter what land and streets are necessary for the station and "approaches," but it is to be borne in mind that "approaches" in this connection does not mean the use of any street for an unlimited distance, but merely what is necessary for an "approach" to the station.

The amount of insurance in force at that date was $1,270,791.92, a net gain during the year of $397,610.10. The assets of the company had reached a total of $186,495.58. The losses during the year aggregated only $3,293.26, which Is a remarkable showing for a total risk of over a million and a quarter dollars, indicating the extreme care with which risks are selected and kept distributed.

CHITTENDEN COUNTY TRUST COMPANY Public Service Commission could order either railroad alone to build a "union passenger station," for it distinctly states that the commission may order "the railroad corporations to establish and not either one alone; and "apportion the cost thereof," "if the railroads cannot agree," but it explicitly states that while the two roads are to establish the station the city may be ordered to pay a certain part of the expenses. It might have been helpful if the act had been formulated to contain a provision that the Public Service Commission might order that a new station be built by one or more of the railroads and used by all concerned; but in view of the specific aim of Burlington to secure an act to enable the commission to order both railroads to join in erecting and using a union station, this omission is not strange. That is the whole situation in a nutshell so far as the act goes. Now if the city or either road is not satisfied with the order of the petition, an appeal may be taken to the Supreme Court of Vermont, tention of thousands jf people who otherwise would never have heard of "Look here, Dinah," said Binks, as he opened a questionable egg at breakfast, "is this the freshest egg you can find?"
