I know of no one ho has seen wine on Mr. Blaine's table, on public or private Mr. Dow was heartily applauded as he took his sent. The session throughout was tended by large crowds and favored with very pleasant weather iiltlioiiL'li verv warm. Mr. Dow left on ihe eveiiinir "train. There seems to be considerable prospect that the animal sis- sion will be held here again next year. though it is uot as yet decided.

Monroe preached an interesting sermon. On Friday morning, although a steady rain was falling, a large audieuce assembled about the stand under the cau- iss to listen to the temperauce services. 1 Mrs. E. G.Greene, president of the presided.

After reading of Scripture and prayer by Mrs. M. H. Monroe of Mid-diebury, Mrs. Greene addressed the audience at some length on the object and work in its ditfereut branches of the T.

L. Mrs. Greene said the trouble with temperance people is the great gulf lliev place between tiieorv and practice. I iii-y will talk ah ut prohibition and vote tor prohibition, but they do not prac- tiee it. The great object of the V.

C. T. V. is to bridge over this gulf and Incite help of God the Christian women of Vermont and the Cuited States will do it. Kev.

The Meeting at The meeting of the British Association: Montreal beginning next Wednesday, will be a memorable epoch in its annuls.

Fo the tirst time this great "Sciehtilie Parliament" has consented to transfer it-s df from its home in Great Brit, and make a temporary sojourn in the "Greater Britain" on ihis side of the Atlantic. The tuos: eminent of the younger men, nt least, iu every department of seientitic rest arch hich the British isles have de- eloped, t.ike part in the proceedings. although it is clear that among the eight hundred members of the Association who have signilied an intention to be present there will be a vas' majority of neophytes who have still their mark to make. From the preparations which have been made by our neighbors in Canada worthily to receive ami" bountifully to entertain this great company of distinguished quests, there would seem to lie extreme1 risk that science on this occasion will be forced into a subordinate place, find that: great excursions and incessant sight-see-: ing will be the most prominent business-: on hund. Should this lie the case, and i even should the social functions entirely i dominate the scientific, we trust that the acquaintance which the visitor will make with matters and nttairs on this side of; the Atlantic will materially assist them in their edorls ami investigations on their I return.

The FiKlit of the Waters. A light has broken out at Saratoga be- 'tween the Congress and the Hat horn Springs. The Congress Spring people1 claim that the Hathoru folks have for years spied upon their shipments and sent to the railroads to git the private marks of their boxes, and then have addressed Slitters to their customers underbidding the prices. They say they mean to con-; linue the war. and they attack the rival, water, claiming that it is "doctored." etc.

The IlRthoru folks say the Empire Spring, not tiie Congress, is sailed, and that "they sell tnree-nunrtcrs ot a million Pottles, or a third move than the Congress," etc. i The Hat horn Spring Hows two gallons a I minute.
