Wary investors see stocks slip 1 NEW St CkS lower early Monday afternoon in moderate trading of New York Stock Exchange issues as investors weighed first quarter earnings reports and traders cashed in on last week's profits. The Dow Jones industrial average down nearly four points earlier was off 1.61 points to 946.15 shortly before 1:15 p.m. EST. The Dow gained 076 point Friday to cap a 28.88-point advance last week, that has made blue- chips vulnerable to profit-taking. The NYSE common stock index was off 0.15 to 54.79 and the average price of a common share was down nine cents.

Declines led advances, 733 to 537, among the 1,778 issues crossing the tape. The 508 unchanged issues reflected considerable investor uncertainty. The three-hour turnover amounted to about 10,030,000 shares, down from the New York Stock Exchange 10:30 am quotations Provided by A. G. Edwerds Co.
