A look at books By SHARON UFER The study of the era of Queen Victoria of Great Britain has many followers today.

Books at the Port Angeles Public Library abet the Victoriana enthusiast in his searches. "The Victorian Empire," by Denis Judd, presents a pictorial history of British conquests from 1837 to 1901. Marie Mallet's letters from Court portray "Life with Queen Victoria" as seen by a maid- of-honor. During Victoria's 63 years of reign, the population of England nearly doubled; social change during this era is heralded in "The Victorians" by Sir Charles Petrie, and People in Life and Literature" by Gillian Avery. The folowering of Victorian domestic architecture in California is treated in "The Ultimate Victorians of the Continental Side of San Francisco Bay," by Elinor Richey.

Victorian novelist Charles Dickens is the celebrated subject of "Dickens 1970." This collection of essays, edited by Michael Slater, is in honor of the centenary of the death of Dickens. Written in a Dickensian spirit are several books for children (and Anglophiles) by Joan Aiken. In "The Wolves of Willoughby Chase" one encounters the adventures of two brave girls in the hands of "brutal Mrs. Brisket, and her daughter, the awful Diana." "Black Hearts in Battersea," "Nightbirds on Nantucket," and "The A fried egg and summer sausage sandwich (on toast) is a great send-off for family members -running out to do Saturday errands. For a different accent, saute bologna slices in butter until they "cup." Saute drained pineapple slices at the same time.

Serve scrambled eggs and chives in the bologna cups and the pineapple on the side. Cuckoo Tree" continue the rollicking misadventures of Miss Aiken's characters.
