FORTUNE IS DEAD Body of Talleyrand Found in Home by Servants. Chicago Tribune Press Service. PARIS, Oct. 26. The duke of Talleyrand, husband of the former Anna Gould, died yes terday of a heart attack.

This was revealed by servants who found his body yesterday mornins in the family home in ine duke was 78 years old. The duke and the daughter of the late Jay Gould, American financier, were married in 1908 in London. Previously she had been divorced from Count Boni AN- Duke of Talleyrand. de Castellane of Paris. Recalls Great Fortune Hunt.

New York, Oct. 26. LSpecial.J The death of the duke of Talleyrand ends the cycle of the fabulous fortune hunting days of the early 1900's. Scion of a twelfth century family and overlord of the principality ot Sagan, whose lands and properties with its 65,000 inhabitants near Silesia he once tried to sell, he had the first chance at Anna Gould's mil lions, but lost out to his cousin and bitter rival, the late Count Boni de Castellane. After the dapper count cost Anna $10,000,000 and a divorce settlement of some $3,000,000, the duke, then Prince Helie de Sagan, took over.

After a vigorous courtship which infuriated the Gould family, which ex hausted all efforts to prevent the new alliance, he captured her and they were married in London in 1908 be fore a gawking crowd of cockneys from Covent Garden market Not a Gould showed up. Duke a Terrific Spender. But even Boni could not empty the seemingly bottomless purse of the Gould fortune. At the time of her marriage to Talleyrand, Anna had an annual revenue of 5200,000, which, after some cajolery, George Gould, her brother, advanced to $250,000, This was necessary to support the duke in the style to which he had been accustomed. A terrific spender himself, he had exhausted two for tunes before his marriage.

To maintain him in his pink palace in the Bois de Boulogne cost a king's ran som. The duke and Count Boni were al ways bitter enemies. The two men, whenever they met, waxed their mus taches furiously and glared. Once, when attending church, they came face to face and the count uttered a naughty word. With that they squared off, Co--nt Boni spat at the duke, the duke spat back, and gendarmes arrested them both RULING RELIEVES SEWER BOARD OF $3,000,000 CLAIMS As the result of a ruling of the Illinois Supreme court last week, the Sanitary district will be relieved of nearly 53,000,000 in contractors' claims, according to Ernest Buehler, chief counsel of the district, after making a study of the decision yester day.

In reversing the Superior and Ap pellate courts, the Supreme court held that a contractor may collect only the damages specifically provided in his contract. The ruling was made in dis allowing the $60,866 claim of the Un derground Construction company for damages to equipment and loss of employes' salaries while work on the South Crawford avenue bridge over the main channel was suspended for ten months in 1929. The district, standing on its contract, offered to pay only $5,000 for a watchman and extra premiums on the contractor's bond, and this was upheld by the high court. J. F.

M. 3 MONDAY WEDNESDAY FRIDAY RADIO STARS PICK FLAWS IN LIVES OF MOVIE STARS Love Commentators Heckle Hollywood. BY LARRY WOLTERS. A natural consequence of the radio parade to Hollywood has been the rise of a flock of air commentators on life and love in the glamor capital. Sponsored by headache remedies, soaps, and lotions these broad casts have not altogether had the effect of relieving pain, or cleansing.

Some of them have gone so far into criticising the private lives of the stars that network officials are reported getting ready to do some heavy blue penciling on scripts lest broadcasting companies become in volved in slander actions. One device which is said to be par ticularly odious to the Hollywood celebrities is the "Open Letter." They usually start like this, "Dear Greta Garbo fill in your own name, You used to be such a nice girl, but now look at you." The critic then proceeds to go into intimate details of the star's off-the-set deportment. This department has received a let ter from Sandy Jacobs of the 8th grade of the Nichols school in Evan-ston which sheds considerable light on the listening habits of north shore youngsters. As a class communica tion project young Sandy conducted a listener preference survey among 300 pupils in ten 8-B classes. Pos sibly the results reflect to some degree the radio favorites, also, of suburban papas and mammas.

In the classification headed "Music and Comedy" the young statistician found Edgar Bergen's Charlie McCarthy an easy favorite over Burns and Allen with Jack Benny, third. In light music the favorites were Benny Goodman swing, the Hit Parade, Bing Crosby, in that order. Leaders in drama were Gang Bus ters something for parents to think about the Lone Ranger, First Nighter, and Robert Ripley. An item to ponder over: there was not one strictly juvenile program on the list TAKE NEW STEP IN BEATIFICATION OF MOTHER CABRINI CASTEL GANDOLFO, Oct. 26.

(JP) A meeting of the congregation of rites attended by Pope Pius and nine cardinals recognized today the heroic virtues of Frances Xavier Cabrini, founder of the Institute of Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, who died in Chicago in 1917. The action was a step toward her beatification, which has been in progress since June, 1936, when the con gregation of rites began its preliminary examination. Mother Cabrini, whose parents were members of the Lombard nobility, was born near Lodi, Italy, in 1850. She went to the United States at the request of Pope Leo XIII. to aid Italian emigrants.

The pope, who casts the deciding vote, withheld formal announcement of the decision until promulgation of decrees, but Vatican officials said it would be fevorable. SCHOOL BOARD TO LIST APPROVED RADIO PROGRAMS Superintendent of Schools William H. Johnson told representatives of Chicago radio stations at the Morri son hotel last night that within the next two weeks a radio council of the board of education will supply Chicago pupils with lists of approved radio programs having educational value. The ultimate purpose of the council, which will include one prin cipal and several teachers experienced in radio work, will be to work with the stations in developing a series of special radio school programs.
