Historian S. W. Halperin dies been described as the leading treatment of the subject. Prof. Halperin also wrote about French politics and the relations between the church and state in 19th and 20th Century Italy.

He edited the Journal of Modern History at the University of Chicago, where he was on the faculty from 1930 to 1970. HE ALSO taught at the University of New Dehli, Wayne State University, Tu-lane University, and the University of Virginia. Survivors include his wife, Elaine; two sons. John and David; and a sister, Esther Witkln. A MEMORIAL service la being planned for S.

William Halperin, a 40-year faculty member at the University of Chicago and an internationally recognized European historian. Prof. Halperin, 74, died Sunday in La Jolla. Cal. A native of Lithuania, he grew up in Chicago and studied at the University of Chicago, where he later taught European diplomatic history.

HE W'KOTE several articles and books, including "Germany Tried Democracy," a history of the Weimar Republic that was written without access to European archival material but has Private rites for John S. Lord member of the Chicago Law Club and served as its president in 1949 and 1950, later writing a history of the club. He was a member of the Hinsdale Union Church, served on the Hinsdale Library Board, helped establish the Hinsdale Health Museum now the Robert Crown Center for Health Education, and served Hinsdale Hospital in various capacities. Surviving are his wife, Marion; a daughter, Jane Brook; and three grandchildren. A memorial service in Hinsdale is to be scheduled.

Dedek said the other youths, who are brothers, took Kasperski home but left Dryden behind. Later, they told their parents of the incident and their parents called the Kasperski home.
