Thomas saw it speeding in Kostner at 127th in Alsip, and noted that the license plates were missing. The police chief, his siren screaming, pursued the1 station wagon to Cicero and then north. He was losing ground, however, until the station wagon's occupants saw blinker lights warning of a frate train at a railroad crossing near 117th st. Ignores Halt Order Simon, who was driving, veered the station wagon to the right and into a prairie, where allleaped out: He was shot as he ran across the prairie in disregard of Thomas' order to halt Squads of the Blue Island state police and the Evergreen Park, Hometown, Oak Lawn, and Worth police departments responded to Thomas' radio alarm. A boy, 15, was shot in the right shoulder yesterday when he and six other juveniles riding in a stolen station wagon tried to flee on foot after a chase by Police Chief Stanley Thomas of Alsip.

Thomas handcuffed two of the juveniles in a prairie near 117th and Cicero av. before firing the bullet that struck Robert Simon, 15, of Worth. Four Rounded Up The four other' juveniles were rounded up by police squads from southern Cook county towns that responded to Thomas' radio appeals for help. Simon was taken to Little Company of Mary- hospital where it was reported that his wound was not serious. His companions were held, but their names were not disclosed because all are 16 or younger.

This is a creation of Cy Howard, the one time Chi-cagoan who also developed My Friend Irma, Life with Luigi, and Meet Millie.

Apparently there is a touch of satire in the name Just Plain People. Miss Gabor will not play a feminine counterpart of Just Plain Bill. 44 I'll be playing a Hollywood movie star who can act like Sarah Bernhardt," she explained, "altho that's ridiculous. And my husband is a writer who is another Ernest Hemingway." A choice is soon to be made among three top name stars for this role, she said. Two are movie personalities and one is in television.

This series will be introduced next fall. PREFERS WEST: Zsa Zsa prefers Hollywood, or more specifically Bel Air, to New York, which the rest of the family favors, she said. The climate, the flowers, and the atmosphere of the west all suit her. And she thinks it's a fine place to rear her daughter, Francesca, who celebrated her seventh birthday last Sunday with a party for 24 kids. "Just imagine," said Zsa Zsa, 44 they ate 100 hot dogs! Another nice aspect to living in Hollywood: Porfirio Rubi-rosa is around, altho Miss Gabor asserted that presently she is too busy with work to think seriously about romance.

You may interpret that any way you like. Lived in Jail Phillips said he lived in one of the two bedrooms at the jail during his occasional assignments in Phenix City. His job was to go round the state and relieve regular license examiners during vacations or illness. He testified he sat in the jail office talking with Fuller and other men for 50 minutes from 8:30 to 9:20 p. m. on the night of the shooting.

The time of Patterson's slaying has been fixed at 9:05 p. m. Phillips said he was positive Fuller didn't leave the jail during that time. Scout Leader Testifies George Pope, a Boy Scout leader, testified he and other Scout leaders attended, a meeting in the courthouse the night of the slaying and then stood in front of the building talking with friends until about 9:35 p. m.

He said he didn't see the departure of Quinnie Kelley, courthouse custodian, who had testified for the state he left the building about 9:05 and saw Arch Ferrell, then Russell county circuit solicitor, running from the scene of the shooting. However, on cross-examination the Boy Scout leader said he was so absorbed in talking with his friends that he didn't hear shots, didn't pay attention to motor traffic, and could have missed seeing Kelley if the custodian had walked around his group. Testimony that Fuller was in the jail office at the time of the slaying was given by two other witnesses. Ben Clark, jail warden, and Robert Lee Smith, brother of a deputy sherif. 2 CENT GAS TAX INCREASE ASKED BY GOV.

KOHLER Madison, March 3 A 2 cent hike in the tax on gasoline, estimated to net 20 million dollars a year in additional revenue, jwas asked by Gov. Kohler today. In a special message read to the legislature, Kohler said the new money would be used for highways and highway safety. The present Wisconsin levy is 4 cents a gallon. Kohler also urged an increase in truck fees and a bigger levy on diesel fuel.

Kohler said the additional revenue would be used to modernize the" highway system on all levels and to provide for a state traffic patrol of 610 now 70 officers to assume responsibility of law enforcement now shared by what he said are woefully inadequate state and county patrols." Sorenson said yesterday. The new signs are replacing the yellow and black type signs in use for many years. Chicago began using the red signs last June when 500 were installed on an experimental basis. Since then 3,000 have been installed and 6.000 others repainted.
