AlJ-Arneri-'can quarterback 'is only 23 today, and he's zed those dreams. So he has tackled aw Lujsek other field. His Job with the Bears leaves him with a lot of extra time for about half the year. Several attractive business offers have come his way but he passed their, up because of his new ambition: To makegoodas a radio performer. Lujack.

teamed up with Harry Creighton and Pieire Andre, a couple of veterans in the broadcasting field, and between them Iney developed a kid show which recently reached ABC, titled the Adventures of Johnny Lujack. The cripts are written ty George B. Anderson, an expert in the field of whodunit writing, and the director is Kirby Hawkes, the pilot of Oapt. Midnight and the same man uho endeavored back in 1936 to fcive Gov. Alfred M.

Landon some nike appeal. Johnny Lujack's Task Now this team has cut out a sizable job for Lujack. Mindful that kid shows go over, best when there is plenty of suspense and excitement they have Johnny playing a role that calls for a combination of the qualities of Superman, Capt. Midnight, Sherlock Holmes, Sam Spade-and Johnny Lujack all wrapped up in one radio voice and personality. Altho there are casual references in the script to Lujack's record at Notre Dame and his -affiliation with the Bears this radio show presents him as a champion of right as against misdirected might, a defender always of fair play and a relentless foe of juvenile delinquency.

The show, which up to now, has no, commercial sponsor is devoting itself to illuminating the worthwhile work of the Boys Clubs of America. And Lujack sounds like hoys club or youth leader. If he mikes a big name for himself in radio it will be because he doesn't worry too much about ihe heavy ro.e that has been laid upon him hut that he just tries to be Johnny Lujack on the air. The Lujack Personality "Lujack on the air sounds like the healthy, wholesome chap he unQuestionably Once Lujack- decided to go for radio he began studying it with all the fervor and diligence that he applied to football. For months he sat in on the Capt.

Midnight rehearsals and watched the actor? work. Afterwards they read scripts He had no experience in dramatics at college. "Johnny has considerable natural ability," said "and he has imagination. He has a good, keen mind. He takes instructions and advice well.

You don't have to tell him anything twice. He has a flypaper memory and the lessons he learned on his first script he applied and put to good use on the second. Masters The Script "He studies the scripts carefully and he understands every situation completely before he goes on the air." Each show is a complete and separate story. In the "Come On Play" which had a circus setting, Johnny saved the life of a trapeze artist who found himself flying thru the air with the greatest of ease-but in wrong direction. The "catcher" of the aerial team had maliciously missed the flyer and it would have been messy except for Johnny-on-the-spot.

In the "Old Razzle Dazzle" Lujack rescued an amateur boxer from the clutches of a racketeer promoter, in "Unnecessary by some careful sleujjiing, he headed off possible murder in the baseball locker room. In almost every story Lujack gets a chance to show that he will fight the hardest when the going is the toughest. And he keeps on emphasizing the precept that no one can break the rules of good sportsmanship very long without getting into trouble. Won't Be TV Actor 3 Lujack admits tfiat he is having a lot of fun in radio. "I enjoy this work a lot," he stated after finishing off a recording session the other day.

Some of the broadcasts are live but others are waxed. And it is the plan to put them on platters during the football season. "This is a new experience for me." he continued. "It is a sort of challenge." However the show turns out Lu- jack says he is not going to become a television actor. But he may be seen and heard In video this fall.

There's a plan afoot to heve him do some narration and comment for football films.
