Washburn-McReavy Strobeck Johnson 952-938-9020 Collins Howard "Stanley" age 43, gifted musician, loving father, and devoted son, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2001, follow ing a brief illness. Howard was born on December 6, 1957, at Hillsdale, Ml. He is survived by his son Seamus Collins, age 8, ot and his mother Narah Collins; and elder sister, Barbara of Hillsdale, Ml. Preceding him in death was his father, Howard Collins. Known as an elec trie bass player and lead singer, his greatest love was making music.

He loved to perform ail types ot music. A gifted song writer, Howard was an ac tive and prolific musician his entire life, forming numerous bands. He also enjoyed choral singing, and was a founding mem ber of the Hillsdale Com munity Arts Chorale. While still in college, he per formed the role of "Don Octave" in a production of 'The Stoned Guest Howard was employed as a Web Designer and Circula tion Manager at Focus News in Columbia Heights, and had previously worked at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Mpls. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and the company of his many friends.

He was always willing to help others, and was known for his quick wit and charming sense of humor. Whatever he did, he did with passion and total commitment Wherever he went, he left a lasting impression. Brad loved Barney Fife on Mayberry. Brad was looking forward to getting his driver's license in a couple months and loved driving. Brad was a great big brother to his sister Kendra and buddy to Zack. All who have known him will miss Brad's sweet, fun loving nature and shy smile. Braddy Boy was a much loved young man.

As we grieve with broken hearts with Brad's departure from us, we are comforted with the knowledge and assurance that he is with the Father. Our "Little Bird" has flown up to Heaven and is now in paradise with Jesus. Special thanks to the ICU staff at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth and all the angels who were there with them. Brad is a hero as he saved many lives by the donation of his organs.

a retired professor, died Feb. 16 in Harwich, MA. Born in London, Mr. Hurrell graduated from King's College, University of London. During World War II, he served in the Royal Navy on the HMS Bluebell and the HMS Chaplet.

He taught briefly at the Fouad I University in Cairo before receiving his PhD from the University of Birmingham in Stratford on Avon. After teaching at the University of Iowa from 1954-1955, Williams College from 1955-1956 and the Ryer- son Institute of Technol ogy, Toronto in 1957, he joined the English Department at the University of Minnesota, where he taught until his retirement in 1989. During part of that time, he also served as the Associate Dean of the Col lege of Liberal Arts, and for several years in the 1960's was the editor of the peri odical Drama Survey. After his retirement, he continued to teach extension courses at the University until 1996. He enjoyed sailing, photography and rac ing his Austin-Healy Sprite.

He leaves his wife, Rosa mond; a son, Michael R. Hurrell of Minneapolis; and a daughter, Susan Bau- danza of Dennis, MA. A pri vate service was held on Feb. 19. He was hon ored for his achievements by being chosen Optome trist of the year by the M0A in 1971, awarded theMOA Distinguished Servic Award in 1983 and 1996, chosen WCC0 Goo NeignDor in 199, recog nized as 1995 Fairperson of the Year by the Minneso ta Federation of County Fairs, and elected as Steele County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1999. Gustafson, age 75, of passed away Feb. 22, 2001. Born Dec. 27, 1925 at Leonidas Mining Location, Eveleth, MN. He grew up and attended schools in Virginia, MN.

He was involved in many sports activities and was graduated from high school in 1943. In late summer of that year, 1 943, he enlisted in the U.S. Ma rine Corps, spent two years on active duty in the South Pacific and was discharged April 1946. In 1946, moved to Chicago, where he attended Moody Bible Institute and graduated from North Park College June 1948, he was married to Lois Klint. In August, he moved to Great Falls, MT, where he was appointed field director for the Ameri can Sunday School Union, serving 11 counties.

In 21 years, he organized Chris tian work in 97 rural and small town communities, opened several new fields of service, saw many chapels dedicated, and established a beautiful camp grounds in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. trained many home and foreign missionaries, con ducted and spoke at dozens of camps, and con ducted hundreds of vacation bible schools. In Sept. of 1969, he moved to where he became active in the food vending industry. In 1973, he and friend established Quality Vending Services, Inc.

to serve the metro area. For 1 1 years he continued do ing part-time Christian work and special speaking. On Jan. 10, 1987, he was married to Gloria Saunders. Gloria preceded him in death Jan.

He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, both during peacetime and war. His service included four tours of duty in the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, among others. Mr. Barte is survived by his wife of 39 years, Maribel; his children, Nancy Rest and husband Tim, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and James Barte and wife Jerri, of West Memphis, Arkan sas; three grandsons Christopher Matthew Barte and David Best.
