Kahn Carol Kahn, 71, of Palm Desert, CA passed away in Rancho Mirage, CA on June 18, 2007 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Carol was born on October 27, 1935 to Robert and Inez Raplee in Porterville, CA. The family moved to Palm Springs in the late 1940's and early 50's. They then moved to Orange County, CA where she met, fell in love with and married Jerome A. Kahn on April 20, 1956.

Soon they moved to Michigan where Carol became a mother of two sons. While the boys required much of her attention, Carol was still able to earn her BA in teaching at the University of Michigan. In 1994, Jerry and Carol purchased condo in Palm Desert where they hoped to spend the winter months. However, Carol became so attached to the desert and the many friendships she made and renewed, she stayed longer and longer until the desert became her full time home. Carol loved photography and traveling, always taking the time to send postcards to her family and friends sharing in her adventures.

To all who knew her, Carol was an extremely energetic woman who excelled in many activities and hobbies including, race walking, hiking, yoga, dancing and knitting. Carol also was passionate about learning how to speak and write the French and Spanish languages. Carol is survived by her husband, Jerry; her loving sons, Barney of Scottsdale, AZ, Anthony (Andrea) and her pride and joy, grandson Austin, all of Ann Arbor, MI; 3 sisters, Donna Spencer of Palm Desert, CA, Bertha Carter of Huntington Beach, CA and Bobbie Abernatha of Williamsport, PA. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Sign the guestbook at thedesertsun.com/obituaries The Desert Sun Art Stevens, Disney animator, dies at 92 THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES Veteran: Disney animator Art Stevens, who co-directed "The Fox and the Hound" and "The Rescuers," has died. He was 92. Stevens died May 22 at his home in Studio City after suffering a heart attack, said Disney spokesman Howard Green. Born in Montana in 1915, Stevens began working for Disney after he learned that Walt Disney planned an animated feature based on one of his favorite stories, "Alice in Wonderland." Among Stevens' credits as an animator are "Peter Pan," "101 Dalmatians," "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day," "Robin Hood," "Mary Poppins" and the underwater sequence in "Bedknobs and Broomsticks." He retired from Disney in 1983.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Penny; his sons, Craig and Kent; and four grandchildren. Martha L. Jose C. Navarro, 91, died June 30, 2007 in Palm Desert, CA. He is survived by sons, Jose, Manuel, Francisco, Luis Alberto and Guadalupe Navarro; daughters, Maria Torosio, Maria Maciel; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Gallagher John W. Gallagher, 85, born July 4, 1921 to Helen and Charles W. Gallagher in Stamford, CT passed away June 19, 2007 in Cathedral City, CA. John graduated from St. Basil's Prep School in Stamford, and from business schools in the area.

He served in the army from 1942 to 1946, and married Doris Troy in 1943. John moved to Glendora, CA in 1973, and then to LaVerne, CA. After the demise of his wife, Doris in 1989, he moved to San Bernardino, CA, and married Rebecca Solhaug in 1991. Rebecca and John purchased a home in Cathedral City, CA. He is survived by Rebecca; sons, John (Jack) William of Mill Valley, CA and Robert (Bob) Charles of San Francisco, CA; daughter Sue Helen in Westminster, CA.

She was born in Chicago on February 20, 1919, the only daughter of Frank and Elsie (Shroeder) Stauder. Possessed of a beautiful voice, Meta launched a singing career after graduating from high School. After several successful stints with bands in Colorado and Bermuda, she was seen by Buddy Rogers who offered her a starring role in his band. She spent the next two years touring the country with Buddy Rogers and his orchestra.

In 1943, she successfully auditioned for spot on the radio and spent several years singing for NBC on their Friday night "Strings in the Night" program carried on station WMAQ-NBC. She later married Hal Harvey who was in the paper business in Ohio. She and Mr. Harvey moved to Hillsborough where they lived for many years before he succumbed to a lengthy illness in the mid 1960s. In 1969 she married insurance executive Alexander Casey of San Francisco.

In 1980, she and Alex moved to Palm Desert where she lived for the rest of her life. Mr. Casey pre-deceased her in Palm Desert in 1997 after a lengthy illness. Meta leaves stepsons, Michael, Lyman and Joseph Casey and stepdaughter, Nicole MacDonald, all of Northern California. She also leaves Gunner, her faithful Labrador retriever.

A memorial service is planned for July 19, 2007 and will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Clubhouse at Marrakesh. The family suggests donations to the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice at 42600 Cook Suite 202, Palm Desert, CA 92211. She was born in San Pedro on July 12, 1947. Martha is survived by her husband; John; daughters, Margaret Ann (Ernie) Semblante, Celine Zorotovich (Richard Dotson), and Kate Frances (Danny); grandchildren, Johnna, Shanelle, Miles, Stephanie, Andrea, Carlee, Jonah, and Marley; mother Margaret Sherman; brothers, Charles and James Sarracino; sister Janine Jeffery.
