They asked for letters addressed to that mythical old gentleman and received at the post-office.

Since an appeal was published last week by the postoffice, 70 persons have applied as volunteer Santas. Nearly 700 letters have been received this year, but most of them were from more fortunate homes where Santa will undoubtedly pay a visit. The letters are sent to Joseph Chmelik, chief auditor, in room 402 of the new postoffice building. There Chmelik sorts them according to neighborhood and waits for applicants. Most of the letters, of course, are written by children.

But some are written by destitute parents unable to fill their children's Christmas stockings. They ask only that their loved ones be not entirely forgotten on the year's most glorious holiday.
