I Tilie Coal cannot keep the prioe of fuel onl oresent big stock of the remsini. A PUT IN YOUR WINTER SUPPLY NOW. We are prepared to deliver coal and wood In any qaantlty at the lowent fiKurm. nlie PIONEER LUMBER CO. STATE PAIR NO MOKE.

Two Exhausted and No Funds for Fall. The state fair commission has exhausted the two venre' appropriation ot 98,000 and no fnir will be held next year under the auspices of the slate. The commission damn th expenses this year amounted to Of this was expended on the grounds; $2000 for premiums; $8000 on the races; and $5000 on running expenses. The receipts it is claimed, were $2,080 from the gates and xra'idstand concessions; from entries; $1,500 from special premiun-s; $300 from Seattle exposition and $150 from other sources. To this is added the state appropriation.

The published report of the secretary later will give the public a clearer idea of how this vast sum of $14,000 has been expended, in detail. WYNKOOP'S AXSWEK. He Replies to Nelson's Animadversions on tbe Cold Hill Route. Kiimuk Hi v.d: I notice Mr. N.

C. Nelson sees fit to attempt to "throw cold water" on the project of a trail or road to Gold Hill. As to my having "ulterior motives" in advocating the opening of this camp, I will leave those who know me best to judge, (or when I tell you I do not own a claim in the entire district I am tailing an unfortunate truth. I only advocate the four-foot trail ''placed on the proper urade for a iiad" because Unit is the on'y why I can see of getting a road to the district. It would be but a comparatively short time until the trail would be widened and a good road be the result.

Mr. says, "why don't you build a railroad?" That showb the impractical side of the tirm, or his lack of knowledge of the difficulties to overcome and the expensive work to be done. I did not combat any of his pet schemes but will oppose an extensive canning plant, as it would In- on a par with working for the state fair to be located here and letting such an institution as the agricultural college go elsewhere. The one is more of a curse than a benefit and tbe other would be a benefit the whole year. I want to say to him now, concentrate your efforts on tbe beet sugar factory and don't let anything divide your energy for one may be established near enough to Yaklina to make that town only a shipping point for the beets.

It appears to be impossible to set an appropriation large enough to build a wagon road; ao let as have the four foot trail, and when It is in operation, with a tandem team or two and trucka banling the heavy machinery, we may be able to get enough money from the state to widen it to an eight-foot road our representative can sue beyond the state fair. It ia a positive shame to use a horse hard when he has on his long, heavy coat. Kept under artificial conditions, he baa not a chance in tin- world to comply with the demands of nature, as the wild horses do, and often he is worked so hard that he sweats freely and then stands all night wet to the very skin, using np to dry his hair all the heat that should be going to recuperate his tired body.

In this way he loses strength steadily, whereat, if the clippera should be run over him, be would dry off in 20 minntea and then stand warm and comfortable all ntght. Just think how it would feel to lie down on your bed with clothes wringing wet with gummy sweat. It is not likely you would be very comfortable. Every up-to-date stable is equipped with a clipping machine. We have the only first-class power horseclipper in the city.
