VICTOR A Editor and Manager WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13,1907 A great deal of effort is being made through certain newspapers to create public sentiment against the forcing down of rates on the railroads in the state. Now the people should stand firmly for what they want or else do no more kicking about exorbitant rates. Brother Berghuis of the Clara City Herald is getting to be a pretty good demopop, as witness the following from his issue of last week: Continued legislation will not correct the abuses of these large corporations.

The only sure remedy that we can see, and we believe it is bound to come, is to have all public utilities owned by the people. Hon. P. A. Gandrud was in the city Thursday.

He was foreman of the grand jury and resented the statement of Tribune that there was more liquor sold in Willmar illegally now than during the time when the blind pig element held sway. He thought that the city council should refute the slander on the F. Spencer's paper. We have abetter opinion of Exrepresentative Gandrud than to believe the above. If, however, he does hold such views as the local ultra-liquor sheet imputes to him, it is very unkind on his part to suggest that any such line of action be attempted by the unhappy city administration.
