Meridian, Dec. 28. It Is reported here tonight that Dan Kerr. Hal Byrd and Krnest Bryan, of Kemper county, who are charged with the murder of the negro Nicholson, have been located in the extreme eastern end of the county, It is stated they are among their friends and say they will resist arrest. Their friends are reported as arming themselves, being In sympathy with the three mn.

M1L1TITIA LEAVES SCOOBA. Meridian Dec. 28. Gen. Fridge and the twenty-five members of the Jackson military company left at Scooba by Gov.

Vardaman, reached this city this afternoon en route home. Late this evening Gen. Fridge received a message from a deputy sheriff at Scooba. Intimating that his presence might be again needed. It was stated that unless an urgent call came from Scooba by midnight, the soldiers would go to Jackson early In the morning.

Gen. Fridge believed the situation in Kemper county had quieted and that no further trouble need be expected. The bodies of two of the murdered negroes were burled without the result of the coroner being made public. Judge Cochran announced tonight that he would issue bench warrants for the arrest of the three prominent men alleged to be implicated in their murder tomorrow morning. JOHN SIMPSON INNOCENT.

The people of Kemper county are satisfied he Is innocent of any connection with the trouble, but he is remaining here of his own accord. He told for the first time this evening that he witnessed the killing of Constable O'Brien by his son, but did not know that private trouble had occurred at that time. He Is an old negro, and belongs to the "before the war" class. He said his sons had fallen into bad companionship and began Jlrlnk in after which he lost control of thiTrT SOUTHERN LEAGUE. George recently advised the civil service commission that the postmaster at Hatties-liurg had offered him a position, and he had accepted, but had failed to put In an appearance for duty on account of thruata. "I contend for the position or something equally as good in the civil service as p-r my examination," says George In his letter to the commission. "It is not even safe for me to stay here longer than tonight. You can address me for the next few days at GaJnesvllle, Miss. As I have not heard from you, I feel at liberty to take this action." Justice O'Gor-man, in the supreme court today denied the application of counsel for George for a certificate of reasonable doubt on the conviction of liurnhum for grand larceny growing out of the affairs of the Mutual Reserve Fund Life company, now the Mutual Reserve Life Insurance com pany. The acting commissioner of the general land office today announced the withdrawal of acres of land for forest reserve purposes Included within the Sacra mento range of mountains in South Central New Mexico. Nelll had many conferences and felt that he had almost brought the parties together on common, ground, he had to retire tonight without finding a solution of the differences at Issue between the Southern Paclllc railway, Its striking firemen and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. So confident was Mr. Nelll of being able to bring about an agreement that he stated early In the night the matter would be settled beforo morning. He found many complications In the con tention of the engineers' and firemen's respective organizations to have the right to regulate the seniority list or the switch engineers, members of the Firemen's Brotherhood, and it was upon this point, the essence of the trouble, that the failure to get the contenders together occurred. Mr.Nlell has not despaired of ultimate success, notwithstanding his disappointment tonight and will take the matter up again early tomorrow.

Hamburg, Dec. 2S. In an altercation about two miles south of here today Thad Stampley, white, was killed outright and Dick Magee. a negro, and W. V.

Magee, white, was seriously shot. The difficulty originated In a fuss between Thad Stampley and Selh Magee, negro, on Christmas eve In Which Seth Magee was wounded. The parties met today about 2 o'clock to compromise the matter between and Heth Magee and the above is the result. As yet it is impossible to get authentic. Information.

28. Thad Htamp-lev. a white farmer living near Ham burg. Frnnklln county, 25 years old. was murdered this afternoon on the Stamp- ley farm, twenty-eight miles enst or this city, by a negro laborer who mistook him for his brother.

Stampiey whs shot twice, both balls striking a vital spot. The murderer was Immediately shot down by a negro farm hand In the employ of Stampley. Stampley was a single man. The murderer had a quarrel with Stampley's brot'her several days rro, and when he saw his victim this afternoon he fired two shots and was In the act of firing a third, when the negro ho was with Wsmpley killed him. There Is no disturbance at Hamburg.
