(Special.) The January term of the Forrest County court will convene on the morning of January 1, but the session will be ahort and brief.

Judge Paul B. (Spe-claL) Wanted in Laurel on a charge of obtaining goods under false pretenses, Lewis Jackson was arrested by the Hattlesburg police last night, and is locked up In the city Jail today, awaiting the coming of the officers from that county. A deputy sheriff came from Eilisville yesterday morning, and left a warrant with Chief Bennett for the arrest of the man. Later In the day, one of the bluecoait located him. Jackson is one of the striking Newman employes.

With a view of bringing at least one of the Baptist Sunday School organizations of Hattlesburg into At class under the new standards set by the Southern Baptist Conference of Sunday School Workers, and Incidentally make it the first organization in the South to attain this end, a meeting will held at the Main Street Baptist Church at 7 o'clock tomorrow, when representatives from the three Ilattiesburg churches of that denomination, wilt be present. (Special) The Gulf Citiea Company, of Biloxi, which operate in this city, Gulfport and Pass Christian, will within the next thirty days begin work on the construction of new mains between Biloxi and Gulfport, a distance of sixteen miles by the pipes to be laid.

The work will require the expenditure of not less than 180,000 according: to George Bruce Cortellyou, general manager of the company, and will replace the line already In operation on the beach. The new mains will be placed several miles inland to prevent destruction by high tide. Large gangs of workmen will be put on the job and it will be completed within three or four months. gro Farmers' Institute. Yazoo City, Dec.

20. (Special) The colored farmers' Institute that began In Tazoo County Monday la meeting with great approval through out this section. Farm Demonstrator Hubert, the col ored agricultural expert of Hinds County, is the principal speaker of the week. Prof. Webber, of trie city color ed school, is also on the program, as is Dr.

Mille, a colored doctor. Farm Demonstrator W. K. Rltch of Taxoo County is in charge of the movement. The following is a list of the places that will be visited the latter part of this week: Thursday, December 21, at 10:30 o'clock, Pleasant Church, Louise.

J. A. Hackett, aged of Meridian, who has been serving the Baptist Church at this rlace for the past 28 years, has resigned his pastorate and will retire at once. Dr. Hackett i one of the ablest Baptist minister In the country.

He has been actively engaged in the ministry for the past 55 yeara, during which period he served one of the churches In New Orleans and churches in Jackson, Miss, Shreveport, and San Antonio, Tex. He went through the civil war, administering to hundreds of wounded and dying soldiers. The members of the Baptist Church passed suitable resolutions commend ing his work. Slay Faaeral, Ifaxlehurst, Ie. 9 The funeral of Jas M. Slay, who was killed by a train on the Illinois Contral Railroad Sunday, took place here Tuesday evening at the residence of hia brother, G. It. Slay, and was largely attended.

Olson, county farm demonstrator of Lafayette county, together with a number of other leading business men and farmers of the county, for the organisation in Lafayette County ot a livestock association to promote the raising of cattle and hogs. The membership of this organization will be made tip of all farmers and otner citizens of the county who are interested in the livestock Industry and the co. operative shipment of cattle and hogs. The association will meet monthly and it la the purpose of the promoter to have he or more expert cattlemen pre-ent at each meeting to Instruct the farmers and discuss various phsses of the industry. Kills Big Hog.

Toccopola, Dec. 20. (Special) Mr. R. R.

Pitts a prominent citizen of the l'eru community in the northern part of this county recently killed one of the largest O. I. C. hogs reported this season. The hog was fourteen months old when slaughtered and after being cut Into five pieces weighed 400 pounds.
