Office in Reed Merry Block, Main St. BOWLING GREEN, 0. SENATOR FORAKER Pleased With the Result Of the State Convention of Last Week. Senator Foraker has taken an early opportunity to silence those Democratic organs which are falsely representing him as in any way dissatisfied with the work of the convention. "The convention," said he, "did good work.

The ticket is good, the platform is good, the enthusiasm which was awakened is good, and the result will be success in Ohio in the coming election. The work of the convention was precisely what I hoped and expected it would be, the only feature which was a surprise tome being that which relates to the selec. tion of chairman of the State committee. This was unexpected to me, but, as I was not present and do not know the details of conditions, I have no criticism to offer to it. The ticket, I think, is an unexceptional one, and one which will awaken earnest enthusiasm and activity among the Republicans in Ohio." "And you look for Republican success in the State, Senator?" "Most assuredly.

We must be successful, and will be." "You hare been busy with the wool schedule, Senator. Do you find it reasonably satisfactory and likely to be so to the wool growers of Ohio?" "Quite as satisfactory as could be expected in view of the fact that the Republican party is in the minority in the United States Senate. That is a point which the people of Ohio and the people of the United States ought to understand clearly and fully and in the most specific and pointed terms. The Republicans have but 43 men in the Senate of the United States out of total of 89. That leaves them in an absolute minority, and anybody who finds the tariff bill unsatisfactory in any way from a Republican standpoint ought to and must take this into consideration.

The wonder is, not that the bill may in some particulars fail to come up to the Republican ideal of thorough protection, but rather that it is so thoroughly a Republican measure. The wool schedule will, I think, be quite satisfactory to the Republicans of Ohio, especially when they take these facts into consideration. Had the Republican party a good working majority in the Senate, it would have been easy shape the bill in a way more satisfactory; but, considering that it le in A minority in that body, I am sure that every thinking man will feel that the success which has been accomplished, both in regard to wool and other articles which have been protected, has been greater than could have been expected under the circumstances." Senator Foraker expresses himself as thoroughly earnest and cordial in his desire to see every Republican in Ohio in line for the State and legislative tickets, and expresses confidence that this will be the case. 21ST REGIMENT. An Association Incorporated to Preserve Regimental Flags and Mementoes.

Reuben Van Tassell has received the articles ef incorporation for the legalizing of the 21st Regiment Association. The purpose of the association, which includes the well known "Wood county regiment," is set forth in the articles, which says it is "to. receive and care for its battle flags and such other trophies, relics or mementoes of its service during the late war, as it may be able to obtain, and to perpetuate the history cf said 21st Regiment. The flag desired is the one now in possession of the war department at Washington. Upon investigation he found that a chitnney had hurled itself through his roof, doing considerable damage. He discovered it was the sea captain's chimney. Hastening down to his library, he pulled out his law books and hunted up similar cases, devising and scheming how he could secure satisfaction from the detestable rived captain. ROYAL BAKING POWDER NEW YORK. REPUBLICAN PLATFORM. The following platform was The republicans of Ohio rejoice in the magnificent victory of last year, whereby the people of the United States overwhelmingly decided in favor of an honest dollar and a chance to earn it, and elected as president that splendid son of Ohio, William McKinley, The platform upon which that victory was won declares the true principles and policy of the republican party. To all the declarations of that platform we pledge anew our allegiance and unqualifiedly commend and congress for their wise and statesmanlike execution of pledges. The republican party has always been the friend of the downtrodden and oppressed and has always deeply sympathized with the struggle of any people for independence.

We extend our sympathy to the patriots of Cuba in' their efforts to achieve freedom from Spanish cruelty and oppression and hope that the day of their deliverance is near at hand. We commend the course of the president and express our confidence in his speedy and patriotic dis-. position of the Cuban question in accordance with wise statemanship and a firm and vigorous foreign policy. We believe that the administration in negotiating the treaty for the annexation of Hawaii has acted wisely, and we express the hope that the senate will ratify the same. We denounce the violation of the spirit of the civil service act by President Cleveland in those orders which extended its operation beyond its purpose and intent and demand such revocation of orders or modification of the law as will accomplish its manifest purpose.

We commend reforms Inaugurated in the pension bureau under the present administration and regard them as earnest of sincerity of our pledges to the veterans of the republic which we here renew, of a watchful care and recognition and enforcement of their just claims upon a grateful people. We favor the passage by congress of such law as will provide a national board of arbitration to secure, So far as possible the adjustment and settlement of such differences as may arise between corporations engaged in interstate commerce and their employes. Faithfully wedded to principle of protection, we demand for the wool growers of Ohio such ample protection for wool as shall speedily increase American flocks sufficently to supply all American needs. We indorse the wise, faithful and satisfactory administration of Governor Bushnell, and congratulate the people of this state upon the financial condition of their commonwealth, which demonstrates that the legislative power of the state was economically honestly.exercised by a ropublican legislature. We promise continuance of biennial sessions, such legislation as max br necessary to remedy the present inequalities of taxation, the malting of only such appropriations as may be properly required for the needs of our rapidly growing state and the avoidance of unneces-3 sary special legislation, believing that the republican idea of home rule is best subserved by leaving the broadest possible of local government with the people.

The success of the republican party will insure the ndvantages of better schnols, better roads and all those progressive ideas which will keep Ohio at the head of the sisterhood of states. Desiring to continue such representation and appreciating his services to the party and tA the people of the state and nation, and his eminent and proven fitness for the position, we indorse the candidacy of Hon. The Chicago superintendent of mails, who hes cut off the dog "Owney" from further mail, transportation, assumes too much in denouncing the famous tourist as a mongrel. A dog that has truveled over the United States for 12 years, and has also been around the world, must have a splendid constitution, to say the least. "Oney" may, possess blue blood in spite of his traducer. Of three young men who shocked the Episcopal church, of Dodge City, by giving a Midway Plaisance entertainment some time ago, it is reported, two have been killed and the other has been maimed for life, all in railroad accidents.
