According to Pat Derby, co-founder and co-director of PAWS sanctuary a collection of animal preserves in Northern California Ruby will make the 350-mile journey to San Andreas onTuesday. There, Ruby, who has been kept alone at the zoo since the death of itsfemale Asian elephant, Gita, last summer, will join Mara, Lulu and the three other female African elephants who make their home on a 75-acre preserve. (Derby keeps five Asian elephants on a parcel across the road from the Africans.) An animal hauler will drive Ruby in a truck that can accommodate the pachyderm. at the age of 74. She was born in Merced, California on June 24, 1932 to Andreas and Margaret Cornett. An only child, she grew up in Salinas and graduated from high school in San Diego, Calif. in 1950. She moved to Los Angeles, where she studied fashion merchandising.

While working as a secretary at Orthopedic Hospital in Los Angeles, she met Douglas Blensly, and the two were married on August 20, 1960. Daughter Sandra Lynn was born in 1961, and daughter Leslie Andrea in 1964. The family settled in San Gabriel, where Andrea raised her family and was deeply involved in church and community activities. Her many associations included the Girl Scouts, the Parent-Teacher Association, VIMS, the Geranium Society and the Rotary Club. At the Church of Our Saviour Episcopal church in San Gabriel, Andrea was a member of the Altar Guild, the Club and a driving force behind the Mitford Tea, a yearly fundraiser and social event.

After suffering from breast cancer in her early forties, Andrea lent countless hours of educational and moral support to other cancer patients. She survived a round of colon cancer treatment in 2002. She is survived by her husband Douglas; daughter Sandra (Ross) Jamison; Leslie (Marc) Perez; grandchildren Matthew, Christine, Daniel, Andrew, Kathryn and Stephen; and one great-grandson, Christian. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin and University of Wisconsin Law School, he was a proud Badger and member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. After law school, he worked for the United States government as an attorney for the Internal Revenue Service. He was active on the board of the Discovery Eye Foundation and raised money for the Jewish Federation. He also served the government of the city of Beverly Hills as a civil service commissioner, was the treasurer of the Southwest Beverly Hills Homeowners Association and supported many charitable organizations. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Beverly, adoring daughters, Jill Goldner, Lynn Goldner and Karen Goldner, son-in-law Randall Poster, devoted sister Clementine Greenberg, brother-in-law Joseph Greenberg and three grandchildren Natasha Poster, Eliza Poster and Matthew Goldner.

Tor was born in New York and raised in Brentwood, California. He graduated from Harvard School and Stanford University and served as a first lieutenant in the US Navy before receiving graduate degrees from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and Harvard Business School. Tor pursued a career in international banking that spanned the globe, first joining the executive ranks of Citi- bank in Tokyo, Japan, then serving as Director of Citibank, Asian Executive Development Center, Manila; as head of Citibank, Korea; President of Citibank International, Chicago and head of the Banking Group of Citibank, Hong Kong. In the course of his career, Tor also served as Area Head of Latin Caribbean and North Caribbean for First National Bank of Chicago; SVP of Crocker Bank; EVP and CIO of First Nationwide Bank! CIO of Sumitomo Bank of California; and CIO for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) which supports US investment in emerging markets worldwide. Tor was an incredibly positive force in the lives of friends and family.

He had a deep and abiding love for his family and his great attitude and motivation was an inspiration to coworkers, friends, neighbors and family alike. He is survived by his wife Cynthia; his children Kirsten, Tor Christianand Carlin; his daughter- in-law Joy and granddaughter Petra; his son-in-law Melvin Renderos; and his brothers, Anders Folkedal and Arne Folkedal. Jawetz passed away on May 1, 2007 at St. Hospital. Born in San Francisco, March 8, 1910, he graduated from Mission High School, San Francisco, in June 1927. He attended University of California at Berkeley in the Fall of 1927 but left to start his career in the brokerage business as a clerk on the floor of the San Francisco Stock Exchange for Bacon Brayton. In 1928 he was admitted as a partner and opened their Los Angeles office and in 1929 joined the then Los Angeles Stock Exchange as its youngest member at age 19.

He repeated this fete at the Chicago Stock Exchange in 1930 at age 20 and was an active trader on both of these exchanges. In 1931he resigned from Bacon, Wardell Co. and bought a seat on the Chicago Stock Exchange where he was an independent floor trader until 1934 when he joined Rawson Lizars Co. as a floor partner and specialist. In 1940 Charlie moved to New York where he joined the New York Stock Exchange as a floor trader.

in 1941he sold his membership and enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant serving until 1945 when he was honorably discharged as a Major. In 1946 he returned to California and with Dan Reeves founded the firm of Daniel Reeves Co. where he served as senior and managing partner. In 1960 he and his partner sold their brokerage business to Hayden, Stone Co. where he was that West Coast managing partner in charge of offices in L.A.

and San Francisco. Charlie joined the San Francisco Stock Exchange where he occasionally traded thereby completing the cycle of trading on the floor of the four major stock exchanges in the United States. Excerpts from his market letters were regularly published in the "Heard on the Street" column in the Wall Street Journal. He also wrote articles for and the Commercial Financial Chronicle. He retired from Blyth Eastman Dillon in 1975.

During his lifetime he was a member of the Bel Air Country Club and the Los Angeles Country Club. His quick wit and good humor will be greatly missed by his many friends. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Ila Jawetz; his daughter, Alice Jawetz, of Evergreen, CO; his stepdaughter, Jane Kneeland, of Templeton, CA, son-in-law, Dr. William Kneeland and his granddaughters, Kelli and Kathleen Kneeland. Funeral services were private.

Gates, Kingsley Gates Moeller Murphy Directors Lee A larger than life personality and much admired fixture in the Westlake Village community died in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 1, 2007. He was 57.

Bob Scoville was born June 19, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. In 1968, he volunteered to serve with his beloved United States Marine Corps as an Infantryman. He saw combat in the Republic of Vietnam in 1969 and 1970 as a fireteam leader, squad leader and platoon sergeant. During the Tet Offensive, Mr. Scoville spent 88 straight days in hostile combat action.

His decorations included the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat two Purple Hearts, the Combat Action Ribbon and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal. Following his discharge, Bob finished his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Finance at Northern Illinois University where he graduated "Cum Laude." He started his business career in marketing positions at Fortune 100 Technology Corporations such as IBM and Fujitsu. Always the entrepreneur, Bob was the founder of M4 International, a worldwide retained executive search firm. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of Global Trade Group International, based in Westlake Village.

With GTG, Mr. Scoville was extensively involved with various International Business Counsels and World Trade Conferences. With his resonant voice, his well- defined 3" stature and his contagious level of self-confidence and charm, Bob was a commanding presence wherever he went. And wherever he went, Bob made many friends. Like those he served with in the Corps, he was fiercely loyal and loved all of his friends like brothers.

To know Bob was to know the many passions he had. Big-game hunting, international travel, an elegant meal and a fine glass of wine were all lifelong passions. His love of country was surpassed only by the love he had for his daughters, Danielle and Tori. Bob is survived by his wife Helen, and his two daughters, Danielle (age 21) and Victoria (age 16), from his previous marriage to Lisa Scoville Hunt. He also leaves behind his mother, Lois Scoville and his brother, John Scoville.

He is preceded in death by his brother Wally. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 32111Watergate Westlake Village, CA. Downing Lahey Mortuary East, Wichita, KS Born March 14, 1919 in Wilmington, Delaware, Bayne Albert Sparks spent much of his life living, working and enjoying life between the two coasts of the country. Raised in the Washington DC area, he had two younger brothers, Donald and James Jr.

(Buddy), to whom he was very close. Bayne, a graduate of Duke University, met his first wife Stella Boyd while serving in the Navy during World War II. With Stella he had two sons Richard and Michael. days in the Navy were important years to him. He commanded a PT boat and served in the South Pacific.

He also worked in naval intelligence where he assisted in the war effort. He was discharged as a Lieutenant Commander in 1948. After the war Bayne moved to Chicago where he began his professional career. His best loved job, though, was as the publisher of American Builder Magazine in New York City. From American Builder he moved to San Diego where he distinguished himself in the building industry, winning the prestigious Max Tipton Award for Excellence in Marketing in 1984.

Later in his career he was a consultant to some of the largest builders in California. life with his second wife Marjorie started in 1970. They initially lived in La Jolla eventually moving to Orange County. After stops in Santa Cruz and Los Angeles they retired to Palm Springs where they have lived for the past 19 years. It was here in the desert that Bayne died.

Bayne is survived by his beloved second wife, Marjorie, sons Richard and Michael Sparks, stepdaughters Polly Covell, Toni Covell, and Susan Hodges, grandchildren Ryan, and Nicole Sparks, Jason and Jennifer Hodges, and many other dear relatives and friends who loved him very much. Shinoda died peacefully in her Los Angeles home at the age of ninety-nine.

Her achievements as a woman and a Japanese- American were remarkable. She graduated from Barnard College, and Columbia University School of Physicians and Surgeons, receiving honors as a Phi Beta Kappa in college and Alpha Omega Alpha in medical school. She was the first person of Japanese ancestry to intern at Los Angeles County General Hospital. She had a general practice in Los Little Tokyo-Nihonmachi before World War II and resumed her practice there after the war. During these early years of her practice, she probably delivered over half of the Japanese-American babies in Los Angeles and is honored as a pioneer by the Japanese American National Museum.

She later became a psychiatrist and was in practice in Hollywood until she retired at eighty-eight. She married Joseph Shinoda, who died in 1964. Mr. Shinoda headed the San Lorenzo Nursery Company and was recently honored by Keiro on the fiftieth-year anniversary, as one of the founders of Keiro Nursing Home and Retirement Center. Their son, Stephen Joseph Shinoda died in 1999.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D of Mill Valley, California, granddaughter, Melody Bolen of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and one brother, Mitsusya Yamaguchi, M.D. Dr. Shinoda was one of seven Yamaguchi siblings, four of whom--two daughters and two sons--became physicians, who followed in the medical footsteps of their father Minosuke Yamaguchi, M.D. She was born in Cleveland when her father was a medical student. Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.

Henry was born September 22, 1911, in Buffalo, New York. At 18 years of age, the Great Depression in 1929 brought many challenges to his life. He worked for Sears, Roebuck Co. for 42 years beginning at the lowest entry level and retiring after 42 years as an executive with Sears, Roebuck and Co. He retired as the store planning and display director for the California zone of Sears, Roebuck.

In retirement he was very involved with his parish. From 1965 to 2002 he was active as an usher at his parish Our Lady of Malibu. Henry was a man of deep faith, with an overriding love for his family. He was a gentle and kind man always with a smile, who loved to engage people in conversation. He will be missed by the many who knew him over his many years, including those at Nazareth House, where he spent the last part of his life.

He is survived by his son, Msgr. Royale M. Vadakin, priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Funeral services are as follows: Thursday, May 10: Viewing from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., St. Anastasia Church, 7390 W.

Nora was born in Van Buren, Ohio and graduated from Lakewood High School. She was an accomplished dancer and a competitive fencer. Nora met Alfred Tuck while he was serving in the Navy and they married shortly after WW2. After starting their family together, they moved to the Los Angeles area where they spent the rest of their lives together.

Nora was proud of her work building the McDonnell F-4 Phantom aircraft and she went on to retire with United Airlines, where she worked in reservations. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and traveling. In recent years, Nora moved to Arizona to be cared for by her grandchildren. She spoke often of missing the ocean breeze. Nora was an extremely strong and selfless woman who set an extraordinary example of what it is to love and to be dedicated to your family.

She had an impact on many and will be missed very much by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, her son, Jim, and her daughter, Carolyn. She is survived by her four grandchildren, Andrew, Robert, Daniel, and Sara St. John, and her brothers, George and Walter Bowman. Memorial Services will be held graveside on Wednesday, May 9 at Green Hills Mortuary and Memorial Chapel at 27501S.
