"Country clubs are able to give us their refinishing work when they close for the summer," said Weinman.

"And when they reopen in the fall, everything is done." QUESTION: How did you choose this business? ANSWER: Furniture Medic filled a niche in the valley for commercial and residential restoration that could be done on site and gave me flexibility to spend time with the family. What makes your business unique in the valley? The environmentally friendly products we use make us unique. You can't buy these products at Lowe's or Home Depot. Whether he is asked to restore a treasured family heirloom or an entire country club full of chairs and tables, he seldom turns down the task. "Most guys (in this field) don't want the little stuff," said Weinman.

"I fill that niche. You might start off repairing a single chair and end up doing a whole bedroom of furniture." The mobility of the business is a plus for Weinman. "We can do anything and everything mobile," said Weinman. "We offer convenience by repairing most furniture in the home or at the business." Weinman credits Furniture Medic, a franchise of Servicemaster, as having given his chosen business a good start with various corporate accounts and name recognition. Weinman's path to the business stemmed from a lifelong hobby of doing antique restoration and his growing up in a hardware family in Los Angeles.

"When my parents retired to Sun City (Palm Desert), my wife, Cynthia, and I took over the hardware store in Hollywood. We worked seven days a week and never saw the kids," said Weinman. They knew they had to get away from the demands of retail business and began exploring various franchises. The family moved to La Quinta, closer to Weinman's parents, and discovered that Furniture Medic was a naturaL It combined his love of antique restoration with flexible hours for family time with 14-year-old daughter Tierny and 16-year-old son Talen, who is working with his dad during the summer. the products that were friendly to the environment.

What would you be doing if you had another career? Something in video production. I have always been involved in filmmaking, short films. I taught a free class in schools, where the kids went from script writing to final editing. I love nurturing students. How do you enjoy your time away from work?
