Four plays later, State's Jermaine Der-ricott blocked an Arthur Triggs punt and Donald Cooper recovered at the Morgan State 1. It took only one play for fullback Eugene James to dive in for the touchdown. State's offense was far from through. On its next possession, Marshall connected with Solomon on a 49-yard touchdown pass to put the Bulldogs up 21-0. Hicks capped the early explosion, blasting up the middle 45 yards.

Wide receiver Early Harris caught three passes for 107 yards and a score. "We started out really good offensively, but I was disappointed that we let down," State coach Willie Jeffries said. "We seemed to play a quarter and let down a quarter. That's something we can't continue. We've got to become a much more consistent team." The Bulldogs scored four touchdowns in the first quarter.

Dawson Stadium had to be a disappointment for South Carolina State's fans. Some stands and concession stands remain far from completed, while work on the interior of the press box has yet to begin. Because of the construction, there is a sea of mud surrounding the structure. Fortunately for the 8,520 in attendance, the game made up for the inconvenience.

South Carolina State, continuing a trend it started at the beginning of the season, parlayed a big-play offense into a runaway 49-7 victory over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Morgan State in its home opener. With State leading comfortably and a huge storm starting, the officials called the game with seven minutes remaining. The Bulldog trio of Marvin Marshall, Freddie Solomon and Michael Hicks continued to set the pace offensively. Hunter Spivey passed for two touchdowns for the Tribe, hitting Steve Campbell on tosses of 48 and 55 yards. Corey Hedgepath, Damon Broadwater and Jim Wiles also scored for Newberry. Charleston Southern (0-5) suffered its ninth straight loss dating back to last season. Newberry had 637 yards offensively, including 452 yards rushing. Nettberrv 15 15 13 750 Chat.

A week after an emotional victory over Wofford one which cost Coach John Perry his hair Presbyterian moved to its best start since 1989 with a 62-14 homecoming triumph over struggling Catawba. "This feels wonderful," said senior offensive lineman Chad Jordan, who has shared many of the Blue Hose's recent struggles. "We've never been on this end of a game like this.

We've never won a homecoming since I've been here. This is what I've been waiting for." The victory, Presbyterian's third consecutive, improved the Blue Hose's record to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in SAC-8play. Presbyterian's 62 points were the most scored by a Blue Hose team since 1922. Led by tailback Steve Gorrie's 141 yards on 20 carries, Presbyterian set records for team rushing (518), total offense (640) and first downs (33). Perry, happy for the reserves given the chance to play by the margin of victory "We haven't had enough of these," he said I7e PZHFOnn Most Scheduled Maintenance Service! on a Filter Includes: aughts wiper Drive Beits Hoset Wheel Alignmsnt Repack FrontRear Bearings Rotate Balance Tires Automatic Transmission Fluid Shocks Stmls Manual Transmission Fluid Transaxlls Fluid Bar Dtffersntlal Fluid CV Joints OIL CHANGE FILTER YOUR CAR'S MOST FREQUENTLY NEEDED SERVICE I Install new ol fitter I CrQQ tRefilluptoS 1 1 quarts lOW-Mol 1 1 lyJjMo.tcar. $1 .00 fee for oU fiter removal 99 Complete Vthlclt Intptctlon Most Cars WHEEL ALIGNMENT 29" $3999 Front Whatk Only Thrust Anpjlt COMPUTER PERFECT, SAVES TIRE LIFE Inspect stawinoauspansion syatam 81 all adjustable anglea to manufacturer specs Road test vehicle MmICaia Parti Mn InMdaB 4-TIRE ROTATION AND WHEEL BALANCE $0499 4UI I Most cars A regular maintenance must Helps tires wear evenly, so your tires wear longer MAINTENANCE BRAKE SERVICE SCQ99 DMD Most cars and light trucks Dik or Dmm: Intpact brake hOM Install premium padtahoea 0 Rmurfaca dnimarotort Road tatt vahicla ESTMAT1S ARE ALWAYS PHOVIOCO WITH BRAKE SCmCt BECAUSE UANV CASES THERE MAY BE EXTRA COSTS 0w iwmt.

John Whitcomb threw for three second-half touchdowns, including the winning score with 47 seconds left, as Alabama-Birmingham defeated Wofford 34-27 Saturday in college football. After Wofford missed a 50-yard field goal attempt that would have broken a 27-27 tie, the Blazers (2-4) drove for the winning score.
