One of the few individuals who could genuinely be described as beloved without exaggeration, he is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years, Pearl, and his adoring children Wendy, Hilary, Steven and Mari, grandchildren Brian, Morgan, Jillian, Raven, Nina, Izella, Briana, and Alan and great grandchildren Cole and Gabby.

He also leaves step grandchildren Natasha, Josiah, Allison and Zoe. The son of Anna and Harry Berman, Jack was born in Centralia, WA and grew up in Chicago, IL. He sold newspapers from the age of 7 to help his family and graduated from high school at the age of 15, the youngest in his class. He attended Northwestern University as a journalism major, and began his career at Shure Brothers during the depression. His writing, marketing and interpersonal skills were so outstanding that he quickly moved up to become sales manager and was the original designer of the world famous Shure Unidyne microphone.

He moved to California in 1953 with his wife Bobbie to begin The Jack Berman Company as a representative in the growing electronics industry. His firm was recognized 35 times by 15 different principals as of the He was the only person ever awarded lifetime honorary membership in the National Electronic Distributors Association, and was the first rep in history to be elected President of the Electronics Distribution Show. He was installed into the Audio Industries Hall of Fame in 1981, the first rep to achieve that high honor. Jack then retired to devote more time to writing and developing his seminars. He conducted hundreds of sales training workshops and seminars throughout the world for salespeople from manufacturers, distributors, representatives, retailers and trade associations.

He remained an active teacher, writer and lecturer in the field until his death at the age of 94, always exhibiting the same energy, enthusiasm, curiosity, and genuine desire to improve the state of the art which made him so popular. He was predeceased by his second wife Rita, sister Ruth, brother Gene and daughter Hilary. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9th at 1:00 PM at Hillside Mortuary (800 576 1994). Born of Swedish immigrants, he was raised in Gadsden, Alabama.

He received his A.B. Degree (Political Science) and LL.B. in 1941 from the University of Alabama where he was active in R.O.T.C. and was commissioned as 2nd Lt. He volunteered for active duty with the Army Air corps on July 22, 1941 where he served as a Commandant of Cadets in Florida and overseas with the Air Transport Command in India, Burma, and China where he served as a Wing Judge Advocate.

He achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel. Robert was admitted to both the Alabama Bar (1941) and the California Bar (1947). He spent most of his career as a defense civil trial lawyer and was a prominent insurance defense attorney. Robert was a retired senior partner with the law firm of Veatch, Carlson, Grogan Nelson of Los Angeles.

He was affiliated with the Pi Kappa Alpha college fraternity and the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity; a Diplomate and Past President of the American Board of Trial Advocates; Past President, Association of Southern California Defense Counsel; American Bar Association; and was over a sixty year member of the Masonic Lodge and former member of the South Hills and Chaparral Country Clubs. He leaves his loving wife, Margaret (Peggy), and four daughters from a former marriage, Cathy Bethel, Cindy Jones, Marilyn Chadwick, and Carolyn Sheehan. He leaves grandchildren Daniel Bethel, Kristen Jones Bender, Brian Jones, Kimberly and Bianca Chadwick, Charlene and Johnny Sheehan. He also leaves two nieces, Harriette Schach and Sue Simmons, step-son, William Mozet, step-daughter-in-law, Donna, and two step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Billy Mozet. Robert loved his family, his country, the military, history, the Crimson Tide, the Dodgers Lakers, the legal profession, and traveling.

CIESZLAK, James January 29, 1950 November 23, 2009 James Bernard Cieszlak, 59, of West Hollywood CA died suddenly Monday, November 23, 2009 at his home. He was born January 29, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan, son of the late Bernard F.

Cieszlak and Dorothy M. (Guyott) Cieszlak. He resided in Los Angeles for the past 30 years. His enjoyments included traveling, entertaining with jingles and show tunes, and was noted for his happy and outgoing personality. He will also be remembered for his generous outreach to other people.

James was hospitalized this past June and was awaiting a liver transplant at the time of his death. He was a 25 year participant in the UCLA Health Study and it was his wish to donate his body to UCLA to continue that research, his final generous gift. Surviving are his mother, Dorothy of Saginaw MI, sisters, brothers and their spouses, Sandra and Ed Barrera of Ft. He was 80. Cekanauskas died of cancer Nov. 30 at Los Robles Hospital Center in Thousand Oaks, said his daughter, Vida Bruozis. The Lithuanian-born Cekanauskas was appointedby the chief of the Lithuanian Diplomatic Service in 1977 and served in the uncompensated position until his death. In 1990, during his tenure, the Baltic legislature declared its independence from the Soviet Union.

Before his appointment to honorary consul general, Cekanauskas served on the board of directors or as chairman in numerous organizations, including the United Lithuanian Relief Fund of America, the Lithuanian American Council, the Captive Nations Committee, the Lithuanian American Assn.

dennis.mclellan@latimes.com VYTAUTAS CEKANAUSKAS, 1929 2009 Engineer served as honorary consul general of Lithuania Dennis McLellan Los Angeles Times HERITAGE Vytautas Cekanauskas filled the uncompensated consul post more than 30 years. Warren Vanderschuit Actor in westerns Warren Vanderschuit, character actor who appeared in the John Wayne film dozens of TV westerns and who had an impressive athletic career as a young man in Los Angeles, died Nov. 27 at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena after battling lung cancer, his family said. Using the stage name Warren Vanders and often playing villains, he had numerous roles in TV westerns, including Chuck Big Smith and the West Was well as the big- screen Lead and Cold others. Born Warren John Vander- schuit in San Fernando on May 23, 1930, he served in the Navy during the Korean War and boxed for Navy teams.

After the war he continued boxing in the Golden Gloves program, capturing the 1954 Southern California light- heavyweight title in a tournament at the Hollywood Legion Stadium sponsored by The Times. He also was a standout quarterback for what was then Pepperdine College from 1954 to 1956. was studying drama, and when injuries ended his football prospects he turned to acting in film, TV and on stage, as well as to teaching in local schools. Eva Szorenyi Hungarian actress, activist Eva Szorenyi, Hungarian actress and refugee who was a leader of the World Federation of Hungarian Freedom Fighters, died Dec. 1 at her Studio City home of complications related to old age, her family said.

After actively participating in the 1956Hungarian Revolution, an anti-Soviet uprising that was crushed within two weeks, Szorenyi fled her homeland with her husband and three young children and settled in Los Angeles. She was born May 26, 1917, in Budapestand at 14 appeared in the first of many Hungarian National Theater productions. In 1935, Szorenyi graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Art of Budapest. During World War II, she hid from the Nazis to avoid persecution because she refused to perform for them, her family said. When she arrived in the U.S., she had already made about 40 films.

Over the next 15 years she had guest roles on anumber of television shows, often credited as EvaSoreny. Since 1957, she had been active in the World Federation of Hungarian Freedom Fight- ers.In 1977, she was the national president when it raised funds to install amonument in MacArthur Park to Cardinal Jozsef Mind- exiled Catholic prelate of Hungary and symbol of opposition to communism.
