Tribune Obituaries Gene Ritchie Monahan dies at 85; was portrait painter Gene Ritchie Monahan, 85, a portrait painter, died Saturday in her son's Shoreview home. She had lived since 1962 in Ranier, near International Falls. Ritchie Monahan was born and raised in Duluth, where she first met painter Nicholas Brewer. It was Brewer who inspired her to paint portraits. She earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1936 and a master of arts in 1942.

She won a scholarship in 1957 from the National Academy of Arts and moved to New York City to study. Merlin Merlin Hebeisen, 64, a Hennepin County social worker for 34 years, died Friday of cancer at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. He worked at Minneapolis General Hospital (now Hennepin County Medical Center) from 1960 to 1969. Later he did psychiatric social work at Pilot City Mental Health Center in north Minneapolis. He worked for the Univ of MN. Ceco Corp, Sandberg Erection Co Charles Nasdy Associate before establishing Gottwalt Products Inc. in 1976. He designed furnished custom products for projects in the Middle East which lead to the formation of the G.P. International.

He liquidated Gottwalt Products in 1989 but continued G.P. International until his illness. He was a member of the Door Hardware Institute since 1974. He was a certified archtectural hardware consultant a certified door consultant. He served on the Ceco Russwin Distributor Councels for was the on the Univ Board of of Wisconsin- Advisors Stout.

He was an active member of St Charles Borromeo Parish, a member of the Serra Club, Cub Scout Boy Scout leader, Indian Guides, Member of St Anthony Chamber of Commerce, past member of the Parents Board for St John's Prep School, and member of the Midland Hills Country Club. He was a strong supporter of the St Paul Seminary. As a sailor he was a member of the Wayzata Yacht Club raced in the late '70's. Huseby, 76, formerly of Minneapolis, an art collector and World War II veteran, died Friday of cancer at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. He worked for the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis after graduating from high school, then left to serve in the Army during World War II.

He returned to the Walker for a short time after the war and then moved to Ames, where he became active in the arts community. Huseby worked as an artist and designer at Iowa State University for 36 years before retiring in 1983.
