But she doesn't need such sentiment for a celebration. Each of her concerts is a celebration of poetry, emotion and good music in a variety of styles.

Her new album, "It Looks Fine From Here," mixes jazz, blues, Tin Pan Alley and folk music with some African and Caribbean percussion sounds. The sparse-sounding recording features Twin Cities guitarist Dean Magraw and percussionist Marc Anderson. They will accompany Schmidt Saturday at the World Theater in St. Paul. It will be her first concert in the Twin Cities In more than two years.
