Werness Co-founder President NWA collision report likely Associated Press Detroit, Mich. Federal investigators are expected to announce this week their findings on the cause of the Dec. 3 collision of two Northwest Airlines jets that killed eight people at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board meets Tuesday and is expected to reveal factors that could have led a DC9 through dense fog and onto an active runway, where it was clipped by the wing of a Boeing 727 thundering toward takeoff. Panel officials declined comment on their investigation Friday. Chairman Jim Burnett has said the board would consider Northwest's DC-9 training program, the lack of ground radar at the suburban airport, the possibility the airport's runway layout is confusing and whether runway lights were on at the time of the afternoon accident. Pilot and control tower error also may have contributed to the collision, investigators have said. Schuneman Theodore R., age 88, S. Mpls.
