Sunday August 151993Star Tribune Harry Cole, 75, an actor in a long line of entertainers, dies 3 lyn Park, and Cheryl Cole, of Rob. binsdale: a stepson, Richard Marti- larry Cole was the last of four eener- 1 1, she ran away from home to become a circus bareback rider. His Mother missed one or two perfor but helped write and produce more than 200 shows for U.S. and Canadian troops. He went back on the show biz circuit when the war ended.

He was a stand-up comic and performed at Diamond Jim's in Minneapolis for many years. He was a radio, TV and stage comedian. He played "Weeping Willie" and other characters on "Hee Haw." He settled in Minneapolis after his stroke. Cole is survived by his wife, Roberta; daughters Chris Murphy, of Brook- Obituaries ktions of entertainers. mances because of me, he said.

He never went to school, but his parents and grandparents taught him reading, writing and arithmetic. He also learned to sing, dance and play musical instruments before he was in his teens. He joined a medicine show in Texas when he was a teenager and helped the owner make and sell a concoction made out of Pepsi-Cola and alcohol. During World War II, he served four years in the Army Air Corps. He was officially a medical supply officer, neau, of Minneapolis; a stepdaughters Stella Johnson, of Minneapolis; a sister, Vera Peterson, of Washington state, and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of SC Clement, 911 24th Av. Minne apolis. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Washburn; McReavy Northeast Funeral Chapel.

Cole was billed as "Harry KING (Tote, a One-man Cast of Hilarious Characters" during his more than SO yeajs in show business.

I 1 He appeared on the syndicated TV show "Hee Haw" for five years, but suffered a stroke and had to retire about 20 years ago. He was found to have cancer last year and died Friday at his home in northeast Minneapolis. He was 75. Cole's great-grandmother, Mae Browning, shocked Victorian-era audiences in this country while performing in a tight white leotard. At Cole's grandparents, Harry and Eva LaReane, headed the "Eva LaReane Stock Company." Posters called it "America's grandest and best repertoire organization." His parents, Clyde and Mina Cole, were versatile.
