"My plans are to break it again and again and again and set a new one every year until I graduate." Two more state records also were set in the afternoon session during the AAA and AAAA meets. Sumter's Cleveland Pinckney set a new record in the discus, winning the AAAA with a throw of 160 feet, 3 inches. Orangeburg-Wilkinson's boys broke the record in the relay with a time of 3:16.71. The Trojans finished first in the Upstate meet and could have won their division in the county championships, but a runner missed the start of the 200 meters when her name wasn't called. "We didn't have many but we did what we had the ability to from a photo finish in the 100 meters with the second-place silver medal instead of a gold.
