Olson gave a report on the Rotary International convention at Toronto on Wednesday at his first meeting as the new president of the Fergus Falls Rotary Club. He had attended the convention as the official delegate of the local club. Several outstanding men addressed the world-wide gathering of Rotarians. These included Prime Minister Lester Pearson of Canada, Carlos Romulos of the Philippines, former president of the United Nations, Senator Clinton Anderson of New Mexico, Carl Miller, the immediate past president of the R.I., and incoming president Charles Pettengill. This year, Olson noted, is the 60th anniversary year of the formation of Rotary.

The speaker used slides to help tell the story of the convention, and to give the club members some glimpses of historic Canadian and U.S. landmarks which Olson and his family saw during their trip through the East fol lowing the convention. Special entertainment on the day's program included two solos by members of the Falls Theatre group in roles taken in the upcoming "Once Upon a a 11 offering. Budget Begins ST. PAUL (AP) The biennial job of making a budget for the State of Minnesota got under way at the state capitol today. It's a big job, Involving state expenditures currently running to around $750 million a year, including direct and open appropriations and federal grants. And, while no one will guess how much at this point, requests are certain to run much higher than that just to take care of growth in various areas, like increased school and college enrollments. The first step was a meeting of a representative of each of about 50 state agencies and departments with budget officer Norman Dybdal and members of his staff to discuss instructions for preparing budget requests.

Smaller state agencies are required to have their budget requests for next two years in the hands of Commissioner of Administration Stephen Quigley not later than Sept. 15. The larger ones, like the Departments of Conservation and Public Welfare and the University of Minnesota have until Oct. 1. Once received, the requests are studied and analyzed by budget examiners preparatory to individual hearings.

Hearings at which department and agency officials will explain and justify their requests will get under way as soon as possible after Oct. 1, with smaller agencies and departments first. Commissioner Quigley and Gov. Karl Rolvaag are expected to attend many of the hearings, especially those involving larger deposits. At some point, possibly when the current financial picture becomes clearer, the governor is expected to make a general budget policy statement to department representatives.

When hearings are completed, a detailed budget will be prepared for presentation by the governor to the 1965 Legislature early in January. PICKUPS We have a good selection of late models to show you. Six or eight cylinder, your choice of trans missions. Reconditioned and ready to go. One year warranty on these fine units.
