311 THIRD STREET. Gives Some Interesting Calcuialions About the Coming Circus. Col. Lewis Sells, who was in town yesterday perfecting the final arrangements for the appearance of the famous Forepaugh-Sells Brothers Circus Federation in Logansport next Saturday, is the inventor of a "fake" statistics scheme that he considers just about as smooth as plush-lined glass. "There is nothing iu the world that will give a man the reputation for great learning like fake statistics," says the waggish Col.

Sells. "Scarcely anyone over dares contradict them, and as a rule the bigger the figures used the more impressive they are. As an instance, we take Julius Caesar, our big elephant and set him pushing our heavy wagons and sometimes our cars around." "Powerful animal," some onlooker will say. "Why yes, he is pretty strong, 1 I will reply. "1 had an expert mathematician figure out the power he exerts when he pushes that car, and it is just 53,627 pounds, or equal to the pushing power of 4,783 able bodied men.

Do you know that the elephant has 5,897,533 separate and distinct muscles, against the 7,772 in a man's body. Each one one of these muscles in the elephant has just seven times the strength of the man's. Now about our tent, we can crowd in juat 15,937 persons. To do that our tent must contain 952,858 yards of canvas. As there are 754 miles of thread in one yard of canvas the thread in our tent, if all straightened out into-one string, would reach all the way around the earth from here just ninety-three times and still have enough over to reach a point six and one-third miles beyoud Odessa, in southern Russia.

This canvas if cut up into baby's frocks, would make 83,565 little dresses; it would make 22,683 men's suits, and it would carpet the floor of 997 rooms the size of the East Room at the White House in -Washington."
