Rodman Daugherty Rodman Gilbert Daugherty, 78, of Palm Desert died Jan. 12, 2003, in Rancho Mirage. He was born July 12, 1924, to Francis and Erma Gilbert Daugherty in Boyertown, Pa.

He married Arlene B. Zittman on Dec. 12, 1986, in Oak Park, Dl. He was a procurement engineer forChicago Transit for 32 years. He was a member of the Oasis Country Club and St Francis of Assisi.

He served in the Navy. He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Palm Desert; his daughter, Delia' Wrightson of Texas; two sons, Dale of Wisconsin and Keith of Arizona; two sisters, Ruth Stoneburner of Palm Desert and Shirley Unverzagt of Ohio; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by bis fust wife, Beatrice, in 1985. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 1 a.m. Thursday in St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in La Quinta.

He practiced under his stepfather, Arthur Keene, a prominent architect of the 1940's-1960's in the area. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1934, and went on to earn his Bachelor's in Architecture from the University of Michigan in 1939, where he was active in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Senior Class. President. Later, he earned a Master's in Science in City and Regional Planning from USC in 1960, and a Ph.D. in Planning and Administration from NYU in 1964.

Mr. Clark also practiced architecture and design as a member of the AIA in Madison Square, NY, St. Louis, MO, Tulsa, OK, Corpus Christi, TX, New York, NY, Athens, OH, Auburn, AL, Hershey, PA, Covina, CA, Redondo Beach, CA, and Indian Wells, CA. He also practiced as a contractor in the Palm Springs area, building and selling his own designs. He was a leader, a visionary, a flnger-to-the-bone-hard-worker, a mover and shaker, a people-lover, a club-joiner, and a cause-fighter. Even in one retirement facility, he was elected the "Resident Representative," a position created just for him by his community's request. His final 4 years were spent being pampered after a stroke in his Santa Barbara home. He passed away in San Juan Capistrano, peacefully, after a well-lived and very full life, on January 4, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Sinikka Marja-Liisa Clark, and his 5 children: Cay Clark, Ken Clark, Kathleen Clark, Kirsti Livingston, Kathryn Kemp; and his 10 grandchildren: Anna, Cathrine, Kerry, James, Christina, Lauren, Clark, Spencer, Jasmine and Amanda.
