CARDUNAL COMMUNITY NORTHWEST HERALD Monday, November 16, 1987 records Deaths Rose Brandt Melvin K. Markee Sr. CARPENTERSVILLE Rose Brandt, 89, Carpentersville, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1987, in Fox River Grove at the home of her sister. "She was born Jan 3, 1898, in Klatovy, Czechoslavakia.

She was daughter of John and Philomena (Flexova) Svoboda. She was a member of the CaryGrove Senior Citizens Club and the Ceska Club of Fox River Grove. Survivors include one son, Phillip (Pat) Brandt, Carpentersville; one daughter, Thelma (Richard) Peterson, Glenview, one grandson, Gregg Peterson, Glenview; one granddaughter, Cheri Lee Brandt, DesPlaines; and one sister, Mary Diamant, Fox River Grove. Memorial' services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Flagg Son Funeral Home in Crystal Lake.

Burial will be private. Memorials appreciated to Helping Paws, 465 Virginia Crys-: tal Lake, IL. 60014. Florence Koubek CRYSTAL LAKE Florence Koubek ,90, Crystal Lake, died Nov. 15, 1987, at home.

She was born March 31, 1897, in Chicago. She was the daughter of the late John Walsh and Nellie (Hartnett). She was a homemaker and member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Koubek.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Frank) Heeney, Cary, and Frances Teitz, Crystal Lake; a brother, Vincent Walsh, Chicago; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Walsh and Alice Walsh both of Chicago; three grandchildren; and three -grandchildren. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Bachmann Funeral Home' in Crystal Lake.

Funeral mass will be 11. a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Kulak officiating.

The burial will be in Windridge Cemetery in Cary. Memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or the Hospice of McHenry County. DANVILLE Melvin Markee 77, of Danville, formerly of Crystal Lake, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1987 in Jamestown, Tenn.

Born April 19, 1910, he was the son of and Alice Markee. He worked at the National Yeast and Terra Cotta Industries before retiring. Surviving are his wife, Mildred (Finnell) Markee, three sons. Melvin (Janet) Markee, of Crystal Lake, William Markee, of Wisconsin, and Wayne, (Melody) Markee of Crystal Lake; two daughters, Betty (John) Miller McHenry, Alice (Victor) Darst of Dundee; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three broth-: ers, Lawrence of Florida, Lyle of Wisconsin and Erwin of Elgin and a sister, Garrison of Hebron. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Kathryn Hoffman on Sept.

11, 1967; a sister Marion Daufenbach; and two brothers Ivan and Glen. Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the Querhammer Funeral Home in Crystal Lake. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Crystal Lake. Memorials can be made to the First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, or the Canton Lodge, the Pocohanas Lodge, the Odd Fellows Lodge or the Rebheka Lodge all, of Danville. Mary O'Connor McHENRY Mary O'Connor, 83, of McHenry, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1987 at the Royal Terrace Nursing Home in McHenry. Born March 14, 1904 in Ireland, she was the wife of Thomas O'Connor, whom she married in 1928.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas (Margaret) O'Connor of Lake in the Hills and John (Barbara) O'Connor of Chicago, grandchildren, Lauren M. Stephans, Stephen J. O'Connor, and Suzanne. Helwich; two great-grandchildren Rachel E. Stephans and Samantha G.

Stephans; a sister Margaret Corcoran of Manchester, England. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969, three broth- Funeral Arrangements Monday, November 16, 1987 Marian I. and Jerry and Margaret Todd, Normal. The great-grandparents are Catherine Hardy, Lewistown; Mildred and Melvin Todd, Canton and Ina Buikema, Keokuk, Iowa. William Ryan CRYSTAL LAKE Dr. William T. Ryan, DDS, 51, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1987, at home after a long illness. A dentist in Crystal Lake from 1963 to 1987, he also had served as trustee of McHenry County College.

Son of the late James C. and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Ryan, he was born July 4, 1936, in Chicago. In 1961, he graduated from Loyola Dental School and was a captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1963. He coached track and field at St.

Thomas Grade. School and was a member of the Crystal Lake Lions Club, American Dental Association, Chicago Dental. Society, Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Crystal Lake. On April 23, 1983, in Las Vegas, he married Vicki Sims, who He is also' survived by two sons, James Ryan of West Palm Beach, and William T.

Ryan Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska; his daughters, Diane (Kevin) Fuery of Crystal Lake and Sharon Ryan of DeKalb; two grandchildren, Johnny and Ashley; and two sisters, Margaret Frohnauer of Dallas and Maureen Plain of Park Ridge. The Rev. Joseph F. Kulak will officiate at the funeral mass at.10 a.m.

Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Burial will be private at St. Mary's Cemetery, Evergreen Park. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jacob Vanderpal MISSION, Texas Jacob Vanderpal, 80, died Saturday, Nov. 14, at Mission Hospital, Mission Texas. He was born in Amsterdam, Holland in 1907. He was the son of Ben and Cora (DeVries) Vanderpal. He was a former resident of Hebron who traveled throughout the country as a -time salesman.

He is survived by his wife Myra (Seaman) Vanderpal of Mission, Texas; one son, Lloyd (Gerry) Vanderpal of Hebron; one daughter Lois (Leslie) Swanson, of Dunlap, five grandchildren and three great-grand children There will be no services. Funeral arrangements were made by Virgil Wilson Sons Mortuary, 2200 N. Conway, Mission Texas 78572. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association in McHenry County or in Texas: 513 E. Lewis F. Smith WONDER LAKE Lewis F. Smith, 71, Wonder Lake, died, Sunday, Nov. 15 at Northern Illinois Medical Center emergency room. He was born May 7, 1916, in Tonica, to Harry and Edna (Krantz) Smith.

Lewis was a resident of Wonder Lake from 1955 to 1983. He moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas between 1983-85. He recently returned to McHenry. He was a retired vice president and public relations consultant at the Merchandise National Bank of Chicago, where he worked for more than 30 years. He is a former Wonder Lake Little League sponsor and officer.

My friend had heard the definition of patience described as cooperation with time. This meaning of patience seems so Many of us check the plants of our yard daily to see their growth. They first appear as buds, growing day by day, and finally bursting open with color and fragrance. Sometimes cooperation with time can be humorous. There is a story told about a robin who decided to make a nest in the hanging geranium plant outside a person's home. Each night the person patiently disassembled the nest. Everyone in the neighborhood wondered who would win the The robin finally decided to settle somewhere else! Personal problems can be sad, almost seeming insurmountable.

It is then that patience and a faith in God is really needed. Many older people possess the true feeling of cooperation with time. It may be a true gift of the senior citizen. He was born Nov. 20., 1905, McHenry. The son of Jack and Loretta Walsh, he owned and worked at the Walsh Insurance Co. in McHenry. He was also a McHenry city clerk.

He the sports editor for the McHenry Plaindealer Newspaper and a columnist for the paper for 50 years. He also wrote a column for the 'McHenry Herald Citizen Newspaper. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Colombus McHenry Council 1288, St. Mary's Court 594 Catholic Order of Foresters and the McHenry Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife Alvina A.

(Freund); his son Jack, McHenry; his daughter Patricia Key, Detriot, five grandchildren; two sisters, Pender Weber and Catherine (George) Miller, both of McHenry. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ellen Walsh. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Peter M.

Justen Son Funeral Home. Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption, with the Reverend James G. Gaynor officiating.
