6Bw TuesdayOctober 241 989 Star Tribune Obituaries Court says insurance firm must defend psychologist director John A. Hollar, 47, G.J. Hnasko, 74; owned the 400 Bar at Fortress Press, dies unexpectedly George J. Hnasko, former owner of the 400 Bar in Minneapolis, died of He was an instructor at St Joseph's University, a Jesuit college in Philadelphia, from 1982 to 1988. Kathleen Hollar said her family will remain in Arden Hills.

"When we came, John said he felt like he was coming home in some way," she said. "His new friends here have surrounded us with love." In addition to his wife, Hollar is survived by a daughter, Anna, and son, Johann; his mother, Janie Hollar, of Orlando, and a sister, Patricia Adriatico, also of Orlando. Services will be held at II a.m. Wednesday at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Roseville. A one-hour visitation will precede the funeral.

Burial will be in Florida. John A. Hollar, editorial director at Fortress Press Books in Minneapolis and an internationally known expert in theological literature, died of a heart attack Friday at Boston's Logan Airport He was 47. Hollar, whose family moved to Arden Hills from Philadelphia in January, was stricken on a plane during a stopover from Germany, where he had attended an international book fair. was so well-respected for his judgment and education that people have been calling from everywhere," said his wife, Kathleen, organist at Grace Lutheran Church in St Paul.

Hollar was born in Statesville, N.C., and raised in Orlando, Fla. He received a bachelor's degree from Concordia College in Fort Wayne, and master's and doctoral degrees-from Washington University in St Louis. He also received a master's degree in divinity from Concordia Seminary in St Louis while completing work for his doctorate. He finished his schooling in 1972, the year he went to work at Fortress Books in Philadelphia. "His scholarship was very broad," his wife said.

"He was fluent in five languages." Hollar had edited from 300 to 400 books since he began at Fortress Press Books, a division of Augsburg Fortress Publishers. He was a member of the Catholic Biblical Association, the American Academy of Religion-Society of Biblical Literature and past president of the Religious Publishers Association. acts or failures to act occurred and whether the resulting damage was caused by the professional services or lack of them is subject to proof, the court said. In a cautionary note, it added, "By not specifically excluding certain acts from coverage, we obviously do not intend to encourage inappropriate sexual conduct by counseling professionals, nor do we believe this a likely result" And it said the insurer, St. Paul Fire and.

Marine Insurance could have excluded certain types of malpractice claims in its coverage, of Love. In another decision: The court sent back to Martin County for clarification the case of Bruce Philip Larson, convicted of sexually molesting a child. The lower court had admitted an out-of-court statement by the victim, who did not testify even though the court had determined she was competent to do so. Larson claimed he had been denied the right to confront witnesses. The appeals court said that without the statement, there was insufficient evidence to support Larson's conviction.

However, instead of sending the case back for a new trial, the court asked for a "reenunciation" of the basis for the determination that the child was competent to testify. In a 13-page dissent, Judge R.A. Randall said he disagreed strongly with the decision not to reverse and send back for a new trial. He said the competence of the child was not the issue before the court. By Margaret Zack StaffWriter An insurance company must defend a psychologist against claims that he was negligent when he became sexually involved with a client, the Minnesota Court of Appeals has ruled.

In a decision to be filed today, the court said some of the allegations arose within the counseling relationship and could be covered under the psychologist's professional liability policy. The case of Dr. Ronald Love, a licensed consulting psychologist, was sent back to Ramsey County District Court for trial. That court had ruled earlier that the alleged malpractice was not part of the professional treatment and not covered by the policy. Love became involved in 1986 with Mary Adams (an assumed name used by the court) while counseling her and her husband, Richard Adams, the court said.

The couple stopped seeing Love when Richard Adams became aware of the sexual relationship between his wife and the psychologist, according to the decision. The Adamses sued on the grounds of negligence and breach of contract. An affidavit given to the trial court from an expert in the field of psychology and counseling said Love deviated from the standards of care as a psychologist practicing in the metropolitan area and negligently treated the Adamses. Judge Harriet Lansing's decision said the sexual acts were an incidental outgrowth of malpractice, not the cause, the decision said. Hnasko, 74, of Minneapolis, owned the bar from 1961 to 1973. He often sponsored free dinners at the West Bank institution during the 1960s when the area was rife with political unrest said his daughter, Frances Kieselhorst, of Minneapolis. "It was one way in which he felt he could help his community," she said. Hnasko was born and raised in Minneapolis, where he graduated from South High School. He served in the U.S.

Army in France and Italy during World War II. Hnasko also was the former owner of the Cedar-Lake Hardware Store in Minneapolis, and a partner in RSG a real estate company that controlled business and residential property in south Minneapolis. In addition to his daughter, Hnasko is survived by sons George Jr. of Milwaukee, and Larry and Richard, both of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
