She passed away May 28th, 2016 at her home in Brentwood, Tennessee, shortly following the death of her husband, George Blackburn. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Meredith Blackburn, parents James Basil Burns and Bertha Emma Stubbs Burns, brother James Burns, and son Robert K.

June graduated from Giles County High School in Pulaski, TN and was a natural athlete. In high school, she won the title of All Regional, All District and All Middle Tennessee State in basketball, and was also team captain. Later in life, she still enjoyed playing sports and became a formidable tennis player, ranking as one of the top players at Sequoia Swim Tennis club. After high school, June entered the work force, trying many different jobs before falling in love with the real-estate business. June was a Realtor for Haury Smith Realty and then Haury and Smith Contractors, for 35 years, and earned respect and love from the real estate community.

During her time at Haury Smith, June earned a lifetime membership in the Million Dollar Sales Club, along with many other awards for her success in the field. At 80, she retired in order to spend more time with her family. June was a dedicated and loving grandmother, mother, sister, wife, and friend. She did everything for her family, from attending graduations to poetry readings. She was a fantastic chef, joyful piano player and fierce arm-wrestler.

Holidays in her home were full of good food, warmth, and love. She enjoyed gardening with her husband George, always displaying a beautiful array of homegrown flowers on her table. June brought love and life into the world, and she will be dearly missed. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday June 7th from 4-7 at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 9090 Church Brentwood, TN 37027. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday June 8th at 10 AM at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCory Nashville, TN 37221.

Gary attended the University of Tennessee, where he met his wife of 50 years, JoAnn, and graduated as an electrical engineer. He joined the sales team of The Trane Company and quickly became a leading salesperson, serving as President of ASHRAE. Gary is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughter Blake (Taylor) Mayes; son Matt Carrington; grandchildren, Ivey and Anna Patton Mayes; sister-in-laws Grade Jean Prater and Helen Davenport; nephew, Jay Prater; and dear cousins. He is also survived by friends who will miss his quick wit, his love for storytelling, and for his Tennessee Volunteers. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, son, and cherished friend.

Army Air Corps in India and China during WWII, then moved to Nashville where he met and married Jean Early (Brockman) and earned a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Vanderbilt University. He was a research biochemist for almost 40 years at the Southern Research Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, working to understand cancer cell resistance to chemotherapy and find more effective treatments for cancer. Wallace and Jean were active members of the Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, and Alabama Conservancy (now Alabama Environmental Council) and were faithful and long-time members of the First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham where Wallace served as an Elder and member of the Church Choir. After retiring in 1990, Wallace and Jean moved to Charlottesville, Virginia. An avid gardener, he spent his last 25 years in Charlottesville tending their gardens, watching birds and other wildlife and caring for their lovely home.

Wallace will be remembered by family and many friends as a kind and gracious man with a strong will and wonderful sense of humor, and as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Wallace is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean Early Brockman, two daughters, Alison Brockman Booth (Mark) and Anne Brockman Hoos, Nashville, and two granddaughters, Liza Hoos (Aaron Sharp), Durham NC, and Meredith Hoos, Nashville.
