By JIMMY BYRNE Mluaaaoili Star Suit Wrttar Coach Gas Hendrlckson and center Mark Pavelich of the Mlnneso-, ta-Duluth hockey team are natives of Eveleth. Because they come from that hockey hotbed, perhaps it's little wonder that both are doing well In their respective positions with the Bulldogs, who invade Williams Arena for Western Collegiate Hockey Association games today at 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow at 2 p.m. against No. 1 Minnesota.

Tonight's game Is sold out and tomorrow's fs expected to be the same. Pavelich, a Junior, was one of Hendrickson's earliest recruits four years ago when he moved Into the collegiate coaching ranks. Hendrickson's team Is riding a seven-game winning streak, with five victories over WCHA foes and holiday nonconference triumphs over Harvard and Yale. Pavelich Is Duluth's leading scorer, a mild surprise because Dan Lamps and Curt Giles are still in the Bulldog lineup. Lampe, also a junior, has led the Bulldogs in scoring the past two seasons and Giles is a senior.

Pavelich, with 38 points (14 goals and 24 assists), is second in scoring in the WCHA, one point behind Mark Johiison of Wisconsin. HENDRICKSON has found that Pavelich makes up for his size 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds with quickness and acceleration. The coach calls Pavelich a steady performer who is especially good In the clutch. Although Pavelich is playing on a line with John Harrington, a senior from Virginia, at right wing as he did last year Scott Carl-ston, a freshman from Blooming-ton Jefferson, is his new left wing. Some close UM-D observers believe Carlston has been a major factor In Pavelich's scoring success.

Except for goalie Jeff Johnson, a senior from Minneapolis Washburn who has been lost for the season because of knee surgery, the Bulldogs are In good shape physically. Taranta at Chlcafa. HOCKEY U4MULUTM-M OFttlRS. I a.m., WHIIami Aram. (la- CHICAOO-at NORTH STARS, nv.

"I haven't talked to anyone on the Giants," Brandt said. "I won't call them. I'm not the type of person that's a job seeker."
