The May 18 finale, in which Ruben Studdardwas named the new “American Idol,” was the top-rated show of the week in householdsas well as in the 18- to-34 and 18-to-49 demograph- ics, which are most valued by ad- vertisers. A special “American Idol” wrap-up that preceded the finale, and a Tuesday-night epi- sode of the series featuring the fi- nal singing showdown between Studdard and runner-up Clay Aiken, were the second and third most popular shows of the week. “American Idol’s” final installment was the second-high- est-rated show in the network’s history, behind the finale of “Joe Millionaire” in February. One test of “Idol’s” power will come next week when the net- work launches “American Jun- iors,” a kiddie version. The season finale of “24” also scored its highest rating ever. NBC’s movie“Martha Inc: The Story of Martha Stewart” held its own against the season finales of CBS’ “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “CSI: Miami.” The 300th episode of “Law & Or- der” won the drama’s best rat- ings since February. Meanwhile, UPN was cele- brating strong ratings for the season finale of “Girlfriends,” the premiere of “America’s Next Top Model” and the series finale of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” —Greg Braxton Still no clay feet in sight for ‘Idol’ For home delivery, call 1-800-426-3232.
