NAPLES DAILY NEWS Thun Mar j5 1973 7A Local Woman Ties For First In Bridge Play Mrs Rene DuBois 1977 Gulf Shore Blvd Naples tied for first in her section in the Central States National Championship Individual session at the 16th annual Tournament of the American Contract Bridge League in St Louis Mo The tournament closes Sunday The American Contract Bridge League an organization of some 180000 members conducts all important bridge tournaments in North America Its members reside in Canada Mexico and Bermuda as well as all parts of the United States and some of its clubs are on far-flung bases of the Armed Forces in Europe and Asia Each year the League conducts three National Championships and participates in a World Championship The League franchises some 6000 bridge clubs that-issue the prized reward of finishing well in tournaments REV CHARLES SERSON Church Speaker Dutch Lunch For NEWS phow ky Normal BY KITTY LOWE-I4M057 Another gala opening is scheduled at the Harmon Gallery on Sunday evening March 18 for the Lloyd Gilmour Jr exhibition of paintings Invited guests may preview the noted Impressionist's first American one-man exhibition outside the New York area and enjoy the cocktail reception for the artist and his wife The Gilmours and their two younger children will relax in Naples for a week away from the demands of their professional New York routines Two older children are in boarding school After a number of years in France they are now settled in a spacious historic town house on New East side and looking forward to the Naples sojourn They will also visit his parents in Palm Beach The Gilmour show will be open to the public daily except Sunday from 10 to 5 March 19 through 31 With the new show coming up we are reminded that the beautiful Hibel exhibition comes down this Saturday afternoon and her many admirers who have not yet done so must make haste to the gallery for this annual feast for the eyes NHS BANDS READY FOR TEST Tuesday night the Naples High School Concert and Symphonic Bands gave their annual spring pre-contest concert in preparation for their performance a week from this coming Saturday in Sarasota for the district judges from which will come their final rating of the year in regional competition The audience while not large was quite receptive having grown accustomed to the high degree of perfection maintained by these bands under the leadership of Jerome Edwards who has earned ratings with his bands ever since he came here about six years ago Among the pleased listeners were Ivan and Jimmie Vaoderpool Judy Edwards Dr and Mrs William 0 Webb Rose Hoffman and Mr and Mrs Otto Hering The Concert Band opened the program with some very ambitious works including excerpts from the opera by Richard Wagner The band really enjoyed itself with by Paul Yoder The symphonic Band should surely rate in all categories if last concert was any indication of their performance for the judges! was a difficult exacting work but these fine young musicians performed it like professionals!
