GREENWOOD, May 9 Three Greenwood County men charged with taking a safe from George Ballentine Motor Co. here were taken into custody today with the aid of bloodhounds from the South Carolina Law Enforeement Divl- Allen Shirley, Raymond Smith and James Day are being held, charged with housebreaking and grand larceny and theft of a truck, in a warrant by George Ballentine. Grier, president of the college, has announced. James Cuthbert Self, Greenwood textile industrialist and winner of the "Man of the South" award for H'52, will receive the Doctor of Humanities degree.

Mrs. John Willson, daughter of Lander's founder, Samuel Lander, and wife of the college's second president, win receive the Doctor of Letters degree. Mrs. Willson is now living in Sumter. Mr.

Wilson Jr. The brothers followed the truck to the quarry and the trio ran, leaving the safe and a sledgehammer from the motor firm on the truck. Police and bloodhounds were brought in and three men were captured before morning. The safe was returned to the company still on the truck and undamaged. The truck was not damaged except for one fender.

Redmon Mull, 67, died at her home in the Mile Creek section of Pick mane Letters from the University of South Carolina, and In November, 1951, he was awarded the Doctor of Textile Engineering degree by Clemson College. The Greenwood Lions Club in 1949 presented him with a plaque as "Man of the Year" in Greenwood in recognition of "bis benevolent genius which has builded in this community a business organization which serves as a model for his industry and a source of never-ending benefits for his fcl-lowman." The Greenwood Rotary Club awarded him a plaque for outstanding service, and the Lions Club of Ninety Six added its note of appreciation with its "first citizen" award for his contributions to this section. Willson, Kathleen Lander before ber marriage to Lander's second president, graduated from the college in the class of 1888 when it waa known as Williamston Female College. After her graduation, she remained at the college working with her father, Dr. Samuel Lander, until her marriage to Dr. Willson. When Dr.

Charles R. Pamell Seaman First Class Charles Richard Parnell, 20, son of J.
