Violent Femmes rock into town Monday The eclectic rock trio the Violent Femmes is headlining a concert Monday at City Centre Theater. The group will be playing songs from its recently released fifth album, Why Do Birds Sing? The Wisconsin-based Femmes came out of the gate fast eight years ago with the self-titled debut album. It was a platinum-selling disc. The group followed with Hallowed Ground, The Blind Leading the Naked and 3. Monday's concert is something of a Summerfest warm-up for the band.

The group is slated Saturday, June 29, at the Milwaukee festival's amphitheater. See "Music" for other information. 5-band rumble at City Centre Friday The wilder side of rock will rumble Friday at City Centre Theater when five bands blaze away in "Grindcrusherll." Leading the assault is Devastation, a five-man band from Texas. The group will be playing material from its third "thrash album, Idolatry. Devastation has been around since 1986 and of late has been touring in a wider and wider range.
