Texture and fabric come in loud and clear on the fall fashion broadcast. "Flat" is out; rough hewn, nubby, fleecy and dense is in. Sean Cronin, above far left, weather reporter for Channel 11, does "Accu-Weather forecasting" in his elephant-checked pullover jacket in the ubiquitous fabric, Polarfleece. It's soft and snuggly, warm and waterproof. His burgundy pleat-front slacks are a season-spanning wool look.

You'll see corduroy in all its wales and in even more shades this fall. WNFL Radio's Sheree Olson, above left, has it on the record in her wide-wale Aztec-print corduroy skirt. Her rosy rolled-collar sweater is ribbed like the corduroy. The look is softened by layering a pink angora scarf-necked sweater underneath. She pulled it all together with a plum suede shoulder bag and matching high-topped boots with pouch detail.

Jon Stubb, above, also from WNFL, dresses up the production room in his corduroy sportcoat with suede elbow patches. Slate blue slacks, a tan knit tie, an argyle sweater vest and a striped oxford-cloth shirt complete his outfit. It's off to a sporting event for Channel 5's Jim Cline, who models a French-cut asymmetrical jacket in winter white and toast-colored gabardine slacks. Royal blue, the season's brightest hue, lights up his look in this diamond-patterned cotton sweater. His suede shoes are jazz oxfords.

Patterns like argyles will make the menswear look, but other winter fabrics come in twisted yarn tweeds, heavy, nubby and hosting hints of many colors. All the menswear plaids from your favorite Scottish clans will be represented, suitable for both weatherman and anchorwoman.
