Born in Iva, son of the late Andrew C. and Ellis McCurry Townsend, he was a Tool Salesman, a member of Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, a member of James F. Daniel American Legion Post No. 3 and was a Veteran of World War I. Surviving is a sister, Miss Alkanza Townsend of Greenville.

Dewey Pierce UNION Mrs. Mary White Pierce, 55, wife of Dewey Pierce of 110 Hicks died Wednesday. Born in Cherokee County, she was a daughter of Mrs. Ollie Jackson White of Gaffney and Ollie White of Charlotte, N.C. Surviving also are a son, Glen W.

Pierce of Jacksonville, a sister, Mrs. Ann Tumblin of Gaffney; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home, with burial in Rosemont Cemetery.

Dare Gitliff of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Basha Adams of Buffalo and Mrs. Doris Ball of Rock Hill; three sons, Fred Rogers Jr. of Swainsboro, Jack Rogers of West Springs and Joe Rogers of Robins, N.C.; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Katharine Gaden of Jacksonville, Mrs.

Pearl Watts of Union, Mrs. Cloia Smith and Jessie Turner of Buffalo; 31 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildrien. Funeral services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at S. R.

Born in Laurens County, son of the late Ruben Virgil and Carrie Brown Barton, he was a retired, employe of Beaunit Mill, had worked at Dunean Mill, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church at Simpsonville. Surviving are his step mother, Mrs.

Hattie S. Barton of Fountain Inn; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann B. of Apopka, Miss Gail Barton and Mrs. Drusilla B.

Posey of Greenville; a son, Mitchell Barton of Ware Shoals; two sisters, Mrs. Jeannette Owens of Gray Court and Mrs. Jessie Riddle of Simpsonville; a half-sister, Mrs. Ethel Turner. of California; two brothers, William "Bill" Barton and Ervin Barton of Fountain Inn; and five grandchildren.

Rountree, died Wednesday. Born in Abbeville County, daughter of the late John G. and Emma Allen Hardin, she was a member of Starr Methodist Church. Her first husband was the late Prue Hickman. Surviving is a sister, Mrs.

C. M. Chamblee of Anderson. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Sullivan-King Mortuary, with burial in Starr Cemetery.

Mrs. George L. Tripp Mirs. Corrie Bryant Tripp, 83, of 20 Creighton Street, Colonial Hills, Taylors, widow of George L. Tripp, died Tuesday.

Born in Pickens County, she was the last living charter member of the Sam-Poe Chapter No. 123, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of Sans Souci Baptist Church and the extension department of the Sunday School. Surviving are a son, Clarence Tripp of Taylors; nine grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

and Pearl McIntyre Owens, he was a retired employe of Monaghan Mill, a veteran of World War II, a member of Buncombe Road Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Thelma Timmons Owens; four sons, Robert Owens, Charles Owens, Jerry Owens and Kenneth Owens of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Monroe Childs of Mrs. Eugene D.

Melvin W. Wheatley BEAUMONT Melvin W. Wheatley, 78, died at the V.A. Hospital in Dublin, Ga. Born in Hendersonville, N.C., he was a member of Beaumont Baptist Church, was a retired textile worker, and a veteran of World War I.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services will be Friday at 4:30 p.m. at M.W Bobo Funeral Chapel, Spartanburg, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Leonard D. Olds ABBEVILLE Leonard D. Olds, 73, of Rt. 4, Abbeville, died Wednesday. Pitts, son of the late William Calvin and Elizabeth Clore Olds, he was a retired carpenter, and a member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Sutherland Olds; two sons, J. D. Leon Olds of Omega, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m.

JOHNSTON Earle H. Smith 52, of New Orleans, died Tuesday. Born in Edgefield County, son of the late Earle H. and Catherine, G. the Smith, United he Methodist was a Church and had taught Sunday School.

He was a graduate of Clemson University, a veteran of World War II, was active in the American Legion and 40 and 8. He was former commanding officer of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the Second Battalion 118th Infantry of South Carolina National Guard at Johnston and served with U.S. Corps of Engineers at Clark's Hill and later at New Orleans. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Catherine Smith of New Orleans; a daughter, Mrs.

Cathy Alford of Atlanta, three sons, Earle H. Smith III of Tucson, Roger Smith of San Francisco, and Jake Smith of Atlanta, two sisters, Mrs. Ann Curtis of Johnston and Mrs. Harriet Williams of Teaneck, N.J.; and a brother, William Smith of West Columbia. Funeral services will be at the home of his sister, Mrs.
