1 Toward the end of the 1950s, Channel 4 created a Bozo the Clown show, featuring Bozo cartoons. The host in the clown suit between 1959 and 1962 was Roger Erickson, now of WCCO radio's Boone-and-Erickson team. Erickson also had a brief turn as a goofball sort of host simply called Roger. Clellan Card, for a dozen years until he died in 1966, dominated the lateafternoon hours on WCCO-TV as a Scandinavian hermit character named Axel who lived in a tree house with puppet characters named Towser the Dog and Tallulah the Cat. The voice and inspiration behind the puppets were Don Stolz, long-time director of the Old Log Theater.

Singer Mary Davies joined Axel in the role of Carmen the Nurse. After Card became ill, it was Nurse Carmen who delivered the daily bulletins on Axel's condition from the hospital. After Card's death, the show became a Carmen show for several years. Davies, who lives in Golden Valley, sold real estate for awhile after she left TV, and now specializes in property management. Sometimes the young buyers she encounters at Loring Park Condominiums recognize her and exclaim things like, "Oh, God! I grew up with you!" "It's very precious to some of them," she observed.

Davies continues her singing career part-time, appearing at many sales gatherings and industrial shows. And occasionally she even surfaces as Carmen: "Once a year, I show up as Carmen at the Interlachen Club Christmas party, and a lot of them, they don't know what this dumb old broad's doing in a pink nurse costume." 14 If you've had breast Come see our selection of silicone breast prothesis from Airway and Nearly Call for an appointment with one of our fitting specialists who will assist you in selecting the most natural and comfortable prosthesis for your needs.
