(Times photo by Robert Taylor) Briefs UWSA plans anti-NAFTA rally KERRVILLE Members of the Kerr County chapter of United We Stand America will hold an anti-NAFTA rally Saturday at the Kerrville office of U.S.

Representative Lamar Smith. County UWSA Coordinator Dennis Pierz, of Kerrville. said the rally will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at Obituaries Smith's offices located at 1006D Junction Highway in the Green Hills Center. LVA seeking VISTA volunteer Literacy Volunteers of America- Kerr County is accepting applications for the position of VISTA volunteer.

VISTA, which stands for Volunteers in Service to America, offers an opportunity to share skills with others, according to Phil Houseal, project supervisor. In the local project, VISTA volunteers are helping develop an adult literacy program, training tutors and recruiting students who need help with basic literacy skills. Term of service is one year, and volunteers are paid a living stipend to cover costs of housing, food and incidentals. Health insurance is included. Bandera celebrates Veterans Week BANDERA To honor our veterans, Mayor Raymond Adamietz and Bandera City Council members proclaimed Nov. 8 through 12 "Veterans Week." "Nov. 11,1918, at 11a.m., the armistice was signed to end World War that war that was to end all wars," said Commander John Wheeler of American Legion Post 157, who was master of ceremonies at services commemorating the date which now honors veterans from all our country's conflicts. He expressed appreciation on behalf of the veterans who were honored at the various programs.

At the courthouse square, a four-man team from the Junior Navy ROTC at Marshal! High School in San Antonio conducted the flag ceremony and the firing squad from American Legion Post 157 fired a 21-gun salute. Jack Massa, principal at Alkek Elementary School, said the school's program was well attended. "We entertained between 200 and 300 with standing room only," he said. All branches of the services were represented and Tony Kruse from Post 410 in Lakehills was guest speaker. Music teacher Gwen Quallks and Carla Lukachik, sponsor of the student council, organized the program of music and slides showing the branches of the services.

At the junior high school, a program, "I Am America," was presented in honor of our veterans with Principal Robert Weyman giving the welcoming remarks and Lupe Reyes, student council president, leading the Dorothy Warmack Bandera Correspondent ELVIRA E. SPRIGNOLI Mass Saturday SAN ANTONIO for Mrs. Elvira E. Sprignoli, 92, of Pipe Creek, who died Thursday in a San Antonio hospital, will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 13, 10 a.m., at St.

Stanislaus Catholic Church with Father Mike MacManus, celebrant. Burial will follow in the New Catholic Cemetery. Arosary will be recited today at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera, at 7 p.m., with Father Mike MacManus officiating. Born March 6,1901 in Lanciano, Italy, Mrs. Sprignoli had been a resident of Pipe Creek since 1989, formerly residing in Pennsylvania, She was a retired seamstress and a member of St.

Stanislaus Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mauro Sprignoli in 1979, and a son, Stephen A. Pallini, in 1981. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy A. Boyanowski of Pipe Creek and Frances Jones of Camp Hill, a son, Joseph F.

DOLORES F. STONE Services Saturday services for Dorores Faye Stone, 80, of Kerrville, who died Wednesday in a Kerrville hospital, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Turtle Creek Community Church with the Rev Mark Dankof officiating. Born Sept. 8, 1913 in Tulia, Mrs.

Stone had been a resident of Kerrville for eight months, formerly residing in Mexico City for 23 years and a short time in Tulia. She was an accountant and housewife, and was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Civil Air Patrol She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club in Tulia, and the Friendship Club in Mexico City. A concert pianist and artist, Mrs. Stone was also a bridge teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Allen Stone of Mexico City; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Gerald McGrath of Kerrville- a grandchild, Melissa Southern-Garcia and her husband, Tony Garcia-Carranza of Geneva, Switzerland; and three nieces, Dr. Delores Car-ruth of Irving, Judge Marie Rucker ofTulia, and Judy Kay Lee of Amarillo. Grimes Funeral Chapel in Kerrville is in charge of arrangements. ANNABEL D. STROEHER Services Saturday FREDERICKSBURG Services for Mrs.

Annabel D. Lochte Stroeher, 64, of Fredericksburg, who died Thursday at her residence, will be Saturday at 3 p.m., at the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ray Tiemann officiating. Burial will follow in Der Friedhof. The body will lie in state in Beckmann Funeral Home in Fredericksburg until 1:30 p.m.

Saturday. Survivors include her husband, Roy Stroeher of Fredericksburg; two sons, Mark Stroeher and Edward Stroeher, both of Fredericksburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Benno Engel Jr. of New Eraunfels and Susie and Darren Smith of Boerne; her mother- in-law, Elsie Stroeher of Fredericksburg; a brother and sister-in- law, Rudy and Betty Olfers of Fredericksburg; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Home Health Care of Hill Country Memorial Hospital or Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. Beckmann Funeral Home in Fredericksburg is in charge of arrangements.

Pledge of Allegiance. Students read poems they had written to the veterans, and after the ceremony, a reception was held. Contributing to the festivities were the PTO, Miss Vander Zee, Ms. Batto and Barge. Programs and sound were done by Shirley Nedry and Wade Ivy.

Hunger supper As part of Oxfam America's Fast for a World Harvest, a hunger supper will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Bandera United Methodist Church. At this third annual supper, the menu will be rice and beans. A on Ethiopia will follow. According.to Helen Bayliss, chairman of the Bandera County Social Concerns Committee, those attending are asked to donate the amount they would normally spend to dine out and join millions of Americans who have given up eating for one day so that others may have what they need to grow food.

Oxfam is a nonprofit, international agency which provides local groups in 28 countries with the resources they need to increase their self-reliance and food production. The organization is not affiliated with any religion or political party. This year's supper is sponsored by Hill Country today Family violence KERRVILLE An 18-year- old reported, assaulted Thursday, by her 22-year-old husband in the 200 block of Schreiner Street. According to police reports, the man allegedly grabbed the victim by the arm causingpain and threatened to strike her with his fist. The victim wishes to press charges.

No arrest has been made at this time. the Bandera County Social Concerns Committee, which is an organization of members from five churches in the county. Chill dinner The Bandera United Methodist Women are sponsoring a chili dinner on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church.

A bowl of chili and a bowl of beans, cornbread and a drink will be $3.50. An extra $.25 will add a piece of cake, according to Judy Goodenough. The Holiday Shoppe will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ryan Building featuring Christmas items, needlework, plants, country store, jewelry, wood crafts and more.
