Student news Sunday, March 7,1999 Kerrville Daily Times Page 70 LCRA to award $101,000 in scholarships this year AUSTIN The Lower Colorado River Authority has received the highest number of applications ever this year for its annual scholarship program, which will award $101,000 to 14 talented high school seniors in June. More than 300 students submitted applications to LCRA's Scholarship Program in February. This year the LCRA is awarding six four-year scholarships worth $12,000 each, two two- year scholarships to a school worth $6,000 each, and five $1,000 scholarships to a school related to the electrical industry. One additional four-year scholarship will be awarded to the child of an LCRA employee. The program, now in its 12th year, has awarded $876,000 in scholarships since 1987.

"LCRA scholarship applications are available through high school counselors in the LCRA service area by early November," said Beverly Seffel, LCRA's director of Community Assistance and Volunteer Services. The Lower Colorado River Authority is a conservation and reclamation district that generates electricity, manages the waters of the Texas Colorado River, operates parks, and assists communities in economic development. The LCRA operates on revenues from the sale of electricity and water and other services it provides. It cannot levy taxes and receives no tax money.
