Dolan, Shawano Civic Leader Dies Stricken in Driving Home From Meeting Of Hospital Board Special to Press Gazette SHAWANO, Wis. Walter J. Dolan, 79, prominent Shawano businessman, civic leader and former justice of the peace, died suddenly here at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. He had been at Shawano Municipal Hospital for a meeting of the board of directors, of which he was secretarytreasurer. While driving home he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, and nad a minor sion with a car driven by Dr.

H. C. Marsh. Then physician took back hospital as a patient, and he died a few minutes later. Mr.

Dolan and his brother, Pat, formed the Dolan Co. in 1908. The firm handled considerable real estate in the Shawano area, and wrote insurance, from the office at S. Main St. Walter continued to operate the company after Pat died Nov.

27, 1950. Was School Teacher Walter Dolan was born at Mighland, Iowa County, on July 22, 1877, son of P. H. Dolan. He taught school in Iowa County before coming to Shawano in 1901.

He was elected to eight consecutive two year terms as justice of the peace in Shawano. Because of failing health, he declined to stand for reelection last spring. He served on the hospital board for many years. From 1932 to 1934 he was in the State Assembly from Shawano: County. At one time he was a member of the City Council from the Third Ward, and he also served on the County Board of Supervisors.

Mr. Dolan was a former chairman of the Shawano County Democratic Organization, holding the office for 24 years. He was the first president of the Shawano County Conservation Commission, was still of Shawano 'Countabe Drainage Board. and Mrs. Stephen (Helen) Ferri, Peoria, two grandchildren, and a brother, Charles, of Highland, Wis. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 Friday morning in Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Joseph C.

Schaefer will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. The body is at the Schweers Funeral Home, where the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society will recite the Rosary at 8 o'clock this evening.
