Johnson took the case June 12 after attorney John R. McDonald withdrew as defense counsel. Superior Court Judge Lawrence Howard rescheduled the trial for July 30. It had originally been set for July 9.

Mrs. Hubka, 43, who is also an author of childrens' books, was suspended from her teaching job after her arrest Jan. 5. She is charged with attempting to hire a county detective to arrange for her husband's murder. husband, Miles Hubka heads an industrial reporting service in Phoenix and was economic development manager of the Tucson Chamber of Com- 'Gator Invades Swimming Pool SAN ANTONIO, Tex.

the area had been secured on petition requesting the anne- ation. The area is in the Desert Steppes subdivision, orth of East 22nd Street and vest of Camino Seco. The tract primarily is a residential area. Today's action was the first since Mayor James I. Corbett Jr.

announced an ambitious annexation drive in larch, of which little has been leard lately. The mayor's plan ed many residents of areas out- the city limits to organize opposition to annexation. "I guess I'm tempted (to comment), but I'll resist," said he mayor today as the council )assed the annexation ordinance. City Manager Roger O'Mara said the annexation will "help square up the city's boundaries" on the East Side. City departments say there will be no "special service problems or ixtraordinary expense" in extending city services to the area, O'Mara added.

In other action, the council vacated a number of streets and alleys within the University of Arizona campus and signed he property over to the UA. The street vacations were an element in the city's argument with the university over right- of-way for widening North a 11 Avenue between Speedway and East 6th Street. The city withheld action on the vacations until the university displayed a more cooperative attitude from the city's point of view on the right-of-way, although this was never openly stated. Robert L. Houston, UA physical plant director, said today negotiations are proceeding on the Campbell Avenue problem and he expects them to result in a mutually acceptable arrangement.

The Southern Pacific Co. is seeking to build a spur track from Sahuarita to the Duval- Sierrita Mine, a distance of about 10 miles. The County Board of Supervisors today set Aug. 5 for a hearing on the franchise application. Duval has a multimillion expansion program set for the mining property and needs rail access to SP's main line, SP spokesmen say.

In other action today, the board accepted resolutions for the construction of the Oro Valley Improvement District for paving of nearly four miles of streets, along with eight miles of curbing. Estimated cost of the project is more than $220,000. Bids should be let within four to six weeks and construction start in three months. The board also established the Paseo del Norte paving project, running from Ina Road to Chapala Drive. Paving on the, 90-foot strip should begin by early fall.

A hearing on the petition to establish a Silver Bell Irrigation and Drainage District was continued until July 15. Werner G. Goering, president of Greater Arizona Ranches said the district would basically be established to lake advantage of the pending Centra! Arizona Project's water. The district would include 56,000 acres of land, both in Pima and Final counties. Steve Emerine, co-publisher of the Green Valley News, presented the board with a 270- name petition which seeks to have the county pay for about one mile of paving on a road which goes west from Sahuarita to the Sahuarita school.
