Richmond Wants Liquor By Drink RICHMOND, Va. (UPI)-The city of Richmond Monday became the first in Virginia to officially ask for a local option election on the sale of liquor by the drink. The move was a major vietory for the state's "wet" forees. The Richmond City Council voted 8-1 in favor a resolution asking ond enrico County state legislators to "sponsor and support" legislation allowing the city and county's residents to vote in a referendum on permitting the sale of whisy by the drink in the capital city. Trusty Prisoner Walks From Pen COLUMBIA (AP) Nevlyn Fair, 33, a trusty prisoner working in the boiler room, walked away from the state penitentiary early Monday.

Elizabeth, Mary Luxury Liners Be Withdrawn LONDON (UPI) The luxury liners Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth are to be withdrawn from transatlantic services over the next two years and will be replaced by only one ship, the yet unnamed Q-4. Cunard Shipping Line chairman, Sir Basil Smallpeice, said the Queen Mary, now 31 years old, will be withdrawn after the end of this summer's transatlantic season. The 27-year-old Queen Elizabeth, largest passenger ship in the world at 83,673 tons, will be withdrawn about a year later, Smallpeice said. The Q-4 is to be launched and named by Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 30 this year and goes into service in 1969.

Smallpeice said the decision was a question of "commercial sense" -they run now at a loss of $2.1 1 million a year each. (AP Wirephoto) Thurmond Plugs Again For Textile Import Curb News Washington Bureau WASHINGTON Sen Strom Thurmond Monday put in another plug for action to curb foreign textile imports which he said could otherwide knock the domestic industry to its knees. Thurmond stressed that he is not alone in sounding the alarm and noted that "grave concern" has been voiced by some such as minority leader Everett Dirksen who comes from outside the area.

S. Brice of McCor- Hall Hearing At 10 Today At Anderson By SARA V. LIVERANCE News Staff Writer ANDERSON U.S. District Judge Edwin M. Stanley of Greensboro, N.C., will conduct a hearing at 10 a.m.

Tuesday in the Federal Building to determine the physical condition and ability to stand trial of Wilton E. Hall, Anderson newspaper publisher who is charged with making fraudulent income tax returns. Hall and Mrs. Bessie Palmer McDaniel, secretary-treasurer of the publishing company, are charged with six counts of income tax evasion amounting to more than $200,000 for 1958, 1959, and 1960 for the Independent Publishing Co. and for Hall and his wife, Mrs.

Mary L. Hall. At a two-day hearing Dec. 15 and 16, 1965, Judge Stanley threw out defense claims that Internal Revenue Service agents had tapped the Halls' telephone. Judge Stanley reserved decision on motions regarding Hall's health.

On March 24 of this year, U.S. Dist. Atty. John C. Williams filed a motion asking that trial date be set and that a further hearing in the physical condition of Hall be scheduled.
