It failed, however, to reach a crucial vote on whether the controversial open housing section should be removed entirely from the 1966 civil rights bill. A day spent on amendments and time-consuming votes on them stretched out the session and the vote on eliminating the section was put off until Friday.

The amendment that would prohibit discrimination against families with children was approved with much loud laughter. The vote was a non-record 99-50 standing tally and most of the support came from Southern Democrats and Republicans opposed to the bill. It is subject to a later roll call vote. Rep. Bob Casey, father of 10, offered the amendment and promptly won a strong endorsement from Rep.

Hugh L. Carey, who has 14 children. "If you really want to help people who have a hard time finding housing," Casey told the House, "you'll accept this OCCUPATIONAL OUTLOOK WASHINGTON (UPI) The fastest growing occupations in the next 10 years in the social sciences, education, medicine and other professional and technical fields, according to the U.
