TEN DEATHS AND FUNERALS Marvin E. Smith (H. WOODRUFF Funeral services for Marvin E. Smith, 60, of Rt. 3, Woodruff, who died at his home suddenly at 2 p.m.

Friday, will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at the Crestview Baptist Church by Rev. Roy Julian, Rev. Hobart Hunter and Rev. Jimmy Skinner.

Burial will be in Woodruff Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be George Williams, Roy Lawson, Thomas Black, L. R. Kennedy, Boyce Fortenberry, and L. C.

Morgan. The body is at the home, Lanford-Boyter Mortuary in charge. Hazel Infant CLINTON Funeral services for Kathy Diane Hazel, infant daughter of Marvin Franklin and Martha Ann Hughey Hazel of Rt. 2, Laurens, were conducted at the graveside in Rosemont Cemetery Saturday at 3 p.m. by Rev.

J. B. Abercrombie. In addition to her father and mother, surviving are a sister, Debra Lynn Hazel of the home, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.

Hiram Hughey of Lydia Mill, Mrs. Laura Lee Hazel of Rt. '2, Laurens, and Richard Hazel of Orlando, Fla. Gray Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs.

C. S. Sims TAYLORS Funeral services for Mrs. Pairsade Newman Sims, 86, of Rt. 3, Taylors, who died Friday, will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m.

at Friendship Baptist Church by T. A. Woolbright, Rev. Howard Wilson and Rev. Wyatt Garrett.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Sims was the widow of C. S. Sims.

Her survivors: include a sister, Mrs. Emma Barnwell of Hendersonville, N. C. The body is at Wood Mortuary, Mrs. D.

H. Parsons Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Gwinn Parsons, wife of David Hill Parsons, of Rt. 1, Sheridan, will be conducted at 2' p.m. Monday at the Greene and Harrell Funeral Home in Bloomington, with burial in the Harrisburg Methodist Church cemetery there.

Mrs. Parsons died Friday in Greenville while she was here visiting a daughter, Mrs. Emily P. McGrew, 23 Sidney St. She and Mr.

Parsons were spending a few days here before going to Florida for the winter. Local arrangements were by the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Frederick Kelley Funeral services for H. Fred- erick Kelley, 46, of 129 vice-president of Auto mers Supply will be ducted today at 3 p.m. at ten's Funeral Chapel, by Rev.

J. K. Kelley, Alastair C. and Wallace Z. Wiggins.

Burial be in Oak Hill Cemetery in fin. Mr. Kelley died suddenly day. The body is at Haisten al Chapel. H.

B. Swofford GAFFNEY Henry Boyce Swofford, 68, of Rt. 3, in the Macedonia community, died Friday at 10 a.m. in Salisbury, N. C.

after several years of declining health. He was a son of the late Tom and Hattie Gentry Swofford, and a life resident of Cherokee County. He was a farmer and a World War I veteran. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Nezzie Hoover of Jetersville, Mrs.

Lula Hoov1 er Rachel of Peeler Spartanburg, of Gaffney; and Mrs. four brothers, Bobo and Grover Swofford of Mayo, S. D. Swofford Gaffney, and S. E.

Swofford of Spindale, N. and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church by Rev. Howard Ensley and Rev.

Claude Campbell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge. J. A.

Murrell James Arthur Murrell, 83, merchant, of 48 Fourth Judson, died at the residence at 2:10 p.m. Saturday following a serious illness of eight months and a long period of declining health. Born April 23, 1880, in Hawkins County, he was a son of the late Joel and Martha Lawson Murrell. Since 1925, he had made his home in Greenville and had lived in the Judson community since 1950. He retired as a watchman at Brandon in 1952 and had since owned and operated Murrell's Gro-.

cery on Fourth Street at Judson. He was a member of Brandon Baptist Church and of the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday School. Mr. Murrell's first marriage was to Miss Willie Starnes who died in 1925. Of this union the following children survive: Joe Murrell, Charlie Murrell, Coy Murrell and Mrs.

His first wife, Mrs. Lela Wyatt Lawson, died 20 years ago. Surviving are his second wife, Mrs. Fannie Puckett Lawson; two sons, Boyce and Roy Lawson of a Clinton; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Dunaway of Newberry and Mrs.

Eva Dunaway of Laurens; a stepson, William Henry Dunaway of Newberry; seven stepdaughters, Mrs. Loree Lawson, Mrs. Belle Hames, Mrs. Mary Tucker, Mrs. Rachel Rowe and Mrs.

Joyce Gossett of Clinton, Mrs. Thelma Willard of Sumter and Mrs. Louise Evans of Anderson; a brother, Jesse Lawson of Enoree; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Dunaway of Laurens and Mrs. Alma Watkins of Columbia; 27 grandchildren; and 13 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Clinton Rev. I. H. Webb and Rev.

Jenkins. Burial by, will be in Trinity Methodist Church cemetery near Cross Anchor. Pallbearers will be Rob Hamby, Virgil Webb, James Page, Clyde Brizial, Claude Ward and Horace Rogers. The body is at the home and Whitaker Funeral Home of Newberry is in charge. Mrs.

J. S. Goldsmith Mrs. Belle Timmons Goldsmith, 74, widow of Jesse S. Goldsmith, died at the home, 508 N.

Main Travelers Rest, Friday at 4 p.m., following one week of serious illness and a long period of declining health. Born August 10, 1889, she was a daughter of the late F. M. and Mary Eaton Timmons, and had spent all of her life in the Travelers Rest section of upper Greenville County. Her husband died March 22, 1961.

Mrs. Goldsmith was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, a member of the extension department of the Sunday School, and was active, in all phases of church as long as her health permitted. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Clyde Bridwell (Mae Belle), Mrs. Robert J.

T. Styles (Ruth), and Mrs. Henry Looper (Marie) of Travelers Rest; one son, Roy M. Goldsmith of SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1963 Hammond, Capers Trimcon- HaisGriffin, Rev. Rev.

Grif- Fri- Funer- Hammond, all of Greenville, Leonard Murrell of Baltimore, and Clay Murrell of Rogersville, Tenn. His second marriage was to Mrs. Mary Townsend who died in 1942. Bessie Edes of Easley, Mrs. Garnell Armour of Athens, Mrs. Beulah McKee, Mrs. Geneva Moore, Mrs. Josephine Fletcher and Mrs.

Cora Abrams, all of Greenville. His third wife, Mrs. Mattie Sutherland Murrell survives together with the following stepchildren: Mrs. Virginia Higgins of Greenville and Charles Reynolds of Columbia; also 14 children and a number of stepgrandchildren; 25 great grandchildren also Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home between 7 and 9 p.m.

Saturday. Born Aug. 7, 1906 at Woodruff, he was a son of the late Thomas and Florence Pollard Greene. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lunette Belue Greene, an employe of the Greenville Police records division; a son, Lt. Jack D. Green, now stationed at Webb Air Force Base, Big Springs, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Victoria Godfrey of Woodruff; and a brother, Jepp Greene of Woodruff.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel of the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home on Monday at 2 p.m. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Hughey J.

Hoxit Hughey James Hoxit, 41, of North Georgia died suddenly Saturday at 1:15 p. m. from injuries sustained in an accident at the intersection of White Horse Road and Washington Avenue. Born April 16, 1922 at Pelzer, he was the son of Mrs. Lillie Mae Ashe Hoxit and the late Simon Hoxit.

For 30 years he had lived in Greenville and at the present address for four years. He attended the Assembly of God Church. Mr. Hoxit had formerly been employed with the Carolina Septic Tank Co. Surviving also are his wife, Mrs.

Ruby Halstead Hoxit; one daughter, Miss Kathy Ann Hoxit of the home; five sisters, Mrs. Birdell Clark, Mrs. Pearl Dodd, Mrs. Evelyn Cantrell, Greenville, Mrs. Danny Mundy, Charlotte, Mrs.

Fred Houston, La Peunta, two brothers, Lloyd Hoxit, Walhalla, and Harold Hoxit with the U. S. Army stationed in Munich, Germany. Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced by Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Mrs.

Lela S. Hix Mrs. Lela Shuler Hix, 75, of 8 Liberty Piedmont, died at a local hospital Saturday at 9 a.m. after several years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness. She was born in Monroe County, Nov.

8, 1888, a daughter of the late John and Sarah Craig Dyer, but had been a resident of Piedmont for 48 years. Mrs. Hix was twice married, first to Perry Shuler who died in 1914 and the second marriage to William C. Hix who died in 1962. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs.

E. D. (Pat) Burrell of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. J. C.

Wallace of Greer, Mrs. J. I. Humphries and Mrs. Oscar Davenport of Piedmont; two grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. W. L. Hale and Rev.

Jamie King. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Piedmont. Pallbearers are Carl Looper, Winfred Crone, Dickie Scott, B. R. Jennings, Clarence Allen and Charles Jennings.

Honorary escort will be the Mother's Class of Pentecostal Holiness Church and members of the Friendship Club of Piedmont. After 2 p.m. today, the body will be at the home. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home is in charge. Tillman Lawson 78, of 100 Rice died early Saturday morning at Bailey Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness.

Tavy Gray Tavy (Tab) Gray, 63, 400 Vardry was dead on arrival at a local hospital after a sudden attack Saturday at 11:40 a.m. He had been in declining health for two years. Born April 5, 1900, he was a son of the late Thomas and Myra Henry Gray.

He had spent his entire life in Greenville. Before his retirement last December, he had been employed at Poinsett Mill for a number of years. He was a Baptist. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marie Suttles Gray; one daughter, Mrs.

Thomas Hawkins of Greenville; two sons, Bobby Gray and Jack Gray, Greenville; Miss Ella Gray, Greenville; two brothers, Frank Gray, Greenville, Palmer Gray, Greenville, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home by Rev. Carlton Robinson and Rev. C.

R. Campbell. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers are W. T.

Eula Epting Halfacre, 70, widow of the late David L. Halfacre, died at noon Saturday at the home of her stepson, 1903 Johnstone after an illness of the past several years. She was born and reared near Pomaria, a daughter of the late Walton J. and Lou Ridelhover Epting. was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a member of Lutheran Church Women.

Her husband died a number of years ago. Survivors include one stepson, Walton B. Halfacre of Newberry; one brother, E. W. Epting of Pomaria; two stepI grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Rev. Ernest K. Counts. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Olin Shealy, David Leroy Wedaman, Bobby Epting, Claude Summer, Robby Ruff, 'and Grady Lee Halfacre. Honorary escort will be members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church Council. Halfacre, 1903 Johnstone St. C. D. Gillespie SENECA Charles Darby Gillespie, 65, of South Townville St. died at the Oconee Memorial Hospital at 2:30 p.m.
