Tree Planting to Begin in Marinette County on May Special to Press-Gazette CRIVITZ, Wis. John H. Saemann, assistant county agricultur-: al agent, has announced that tree planting will begin in the county May 1. The trees will be planted at Kremlin, town of Pembine, and will be supplied by the state tree nursery. More than 550,000 white, norway, and jack pine trees will be planted.

One of the problems of tree planting this year is the shortage of manpower, Saemann said. The agricultural department will furnish transportation for workers from Crivitz, Wausaukee, Amberg, Pembine and the surrounding areas of these towns. Workers will be employed for about a month and will be well paid, Saemann said. Information on the tree planting program can be obtained at the local agricultural office, at the ranger stations in Wausaukee and Pembine, or from Fred Shanebrook, Amberg, and Clayton Lee in Crivitz. Men and boys, 16 years and older, are asked to apply for the work.

The tree planting program is sponsored by the county land committee and is for the purpose of reforesting county owned forest crop land. In 1942 spring planting totaled 1,791,560 trees on 1,497 acres in the county. Wartime conditions curtailed the tree planting program until now.
