Lillian Barnard Gilkes, 74, of 109 Wilderness Road, a retired author and writer, died Friday. A native of Jacksonville, she was a daughter of the late Arthur G. and Fannie Louise Taylor Gilkes. McFarland Funeral Chapel. Evelena R. Rowe SALUDA Evelena Riddlehooder Rowe, 72, wife of the late Dorsey Rowe, a retired textile employe, died Sunday. Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of Ben and Mamie Shutz Riddlehooder, and a member of Emory United Methodist Church. Surviving also are sisters, Elizabeth Smith of N.

Augusta, Maggie Autrey of Ridge Springs, Dora Padgett of Colorado, a brother, Henry Riddlehooder of Moetta. Services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Emory United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The body is at the home of a Julius Rowe, Rt. 4, Saluda Ramey Funeral Home.

Barney Freeman Barney Freeman, 62, of 709 Palmetto Riverside community, a self-employed house painter, husband of Lucille Barnette Freeman, died Saturday. A native of Kershaw County, he was a son of the late John H. and Corilla Childers Freeman, was formerly of Sumter, attended Cleveland Church of God and was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are daughters, Mona C. Freeman, Betty Freeman Allen and Nina Freeman Andrews of Greenville; sons, Jimmy Larry and Laverne Freeman of Greenville 1977-7-B Straup of Charleston; brothers, Moody and Raymond W.

Bernice Crowe SALEM Bernice Chappell Crowe, 46, of Starr Route, widow of Floyd Crowe, died Saturday in Columbia. A native of Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Arvil and Etta Stewart Chappell. Surviving are sons, Herbert H. Chappell of Easley, Jimmy Ray Chappell of Salem and Johnny Crowe of U. S.

Navy, stationed in the Phillipines; daughter, Diane Crowe of Tryon, N.C.; brothers, Albert Chappell of Salem and Robert Chappell of Manassas, sisters, Virginia Henry of Central and Mae Osie Kerr of Salem; and five grandchildren. Funeral plans will be announced by Davenport Funeral Home. The family is at the home of Mrs. Robert Kerr, Jocassee community, Salem. Joyce Duncan SPARTANBURG Joyce Fisher Duncan, 52, of Rt.

7, Bond Park Road, wife of Raymond N. Duncan, died Sunday. A native of Spartanburg, she was a daughter of Jessie L. Boyd, Sr LAURENS Carlos Brown Boyd, 76, retired glass worker, husband of Beatrice Caldwell Boyd, died Sunday. A native of Laurens County, he was a son of Andy I. and Canie Brown Boyd, and a member of Union Baptist Church. Surviving also are daughters, Mrs. Clyde Moore and Mrs.

Mack Davis of Laurens; a son, Carlos B. Boyd, Jr. of the home; sisters, Mrs. Ryland A. Culbertson and Mrs.

Milford Wiibanks, both of Laurens, Mrs. John Sawicki of Philadelphia, two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kennedy Mortuary Chapel, with burial in New Prospect Baptist Church cemetery. The body is at the mortuary and the family is at the home, 1412 Chestnut St.
